How long do DVD-RW discs last?

I like to rent movies on Netflix, but I don't always watch them right away. So I copy them to my computer, mail the movie back, then I burn them on DVD-RW disc when I have time to watch the movie. I use the disc again with different movies, and I've done so about 10 times. How long could I use the disc for? The picture quality doesn't seem to be affected. It still looks good.
 
I think thats illegal...

I suppose to answer however, a dvd-rw can be re-written hundereds of times as long as its taken care of.

No thinking required:P, making even a backup copy is technically illegal under the DMCA as to make the backup copy you are breaking dvd encryption, copying a movie that you do not own to a dvd is piracy...
 
It's not illegal to make a backup copy of something for your own personal use, you have the right to.
As long as you keep the encryption it's legal.
 
I'm not making copies for my own personal collection, or selling the copies. I make a copy to watch later and then it gets erased. I do this because I normally don't have time to watch movies during the week. That's why I'm on the one-movie at a time plan. If I get a movie on Monday, there's no point to hold it til the weekend when I have time to watch it. I copy the movie on Monday, mail it back Tuesday, and usually get another movie Thursday or Friday. This way, I get to watch 2 movies on the weekend. If I really thought I was doing something illegal, I wouldn't have mentioned what I'm doing with the DVD-RW disc.

Well, it honestly doesnt matter what your doing with it, copying a dvd is still technically and totally illegal as you dont even own the disc to begin with... Sorry but thats the truth. On a side note... i thought netflix had no late dates, why not just keep the discs til you get around to watching it?

How do you plan on ripping the dvd to a computer then? You have to break the encryption in order to copy it to begin with.
 
If breaking encryption is required, then backing up disks is illegal. It does not matter if you own them or not. Thread closed.
