I accidentally orderred IDE instead of SATA DVD Drive

I was all set to buy the LG SATA drive in my shopping cart - but NewEgg sold out before I put in the order to buy - so I grabbed the cheapest drive I could find. I accidently ordered an IDE drive instead of SATA in haste.

Is this a big deal?
any performance dropoffs?
Will this work ok - or do I need to replace it with a SATA drive? This is a top of the line system for me - and I don't want a bottleneck in the DVD drive.

:(

DVD drives can't bottleneck a system. You may find slightly slower install speeds but that is all. It will take longer to read stuff off of the disc, but not slow the system once the program itself is installed.

And also, this is in the wrong place ;)

Nothing wrong with SATA vs IDE for drives...very little of a difference doubt you would notice the change.

I know - hasty Drive purchase / hasty OP

Haste makes waste ... lol

My bad x 2

Well, the only thing that sucks is how the ide cables hinder airflow... But SATA drives will not be bottlenecked by the ata interface, the drives are too slow to consume the available bandwidth.

I got my DVD drive from an old "broken" work computer my mom brought home. Its IDE and its worked perfectly, and I'm pretty sure it is just as fast as a similar SATA drive would be. Like others have said, the only drawback is the ribbon cable vs. the small cable, which can be a bit annoying when you assemble if you have lots of drives or fans.
