i have 1 74gig 16mb cache 10k rpm raptor and im wondering..

would it be worth buying another for raid0 for more storage space?

can anyone tell me

will there will be a performance gain, if so how much.
is raido easy to setup? (using asus p6t-se motherboard)

i will be buying the other drive second hand, they will be run in my i7 rig im building.

thanx people

I'm not sure about the performance but it's easy to setup, read the manual for your board and you may need to create a floppy disk.

With vista you might not, setting up raid on xp required a driver on a floppy disk during windows setup.

if your running vista you wont need to use a floppy, anything up to and including win XP you will.
on my 150Gb raptors, if i have only one connected, HDTune says i get about 90Mbps, with RAID0 i get about 150Mbps.

so there is a good speed increase!!

The performance increase is VERY subjective. May I inquire on your higher goal here?

RAID is, in my opinion, a server side mostly technology and only for a few niche suers. Actual overall performance increase of regular use of a computer in RAID 0 is nil. It will only benefit the user that needs to do large amounts of data throughput on their hard disks or have insane amounts of disk I/O for what they do. Things like rendering, video editing, and large data manipulation would probably benefit from RAID 0. Everything else won't. You won't surf the web faster, you won't get more frames per a second, and you won't have your applications run faster.

They may load faster, and your rig may boot faster, but that is all sacrificed at the rate of stability. If either drive has an issue bye bye RAID array and bye bye data.

If you do it, keep all your data on a separate drive.

well my main goal is to get the 2 drives ruuning as 1 for more space in drive c for windows partition and games...

if there is a performance gain form this i would be happy if not i would be happy with the combined space
