Restoring A Drive

Well after my other thread got too popular, http://www.computerforum.com/152485-chk-dsk-problem.html, I decided to ask again.

I currently cannot access my main drive, I'm getting a black screen with a cursor after the Vista loading page. I have a backup, though I'm iffy about it, http://www.computerforum.com/152568-hd-backup-software.html. I'm on another drive and have my main drive connected as a secondary (the one that isn't working properly) and I was wondering what I could do.. I would love to get back to using that drive, but I can not determine the problem.. Can I get another 500GB drive and just copy the whole drive as an image or something and make it bootable? Or would the problem carry over? Or can I run scans or something on it that could fix it?

Oh, BTW, I've tried searching and posting in other forums, including Vista forums and can not find a solution.

Thanks.

Sorry i couldn't help you the other day when we talked on steam .....forgot to ask, Have you ran the Diagnostic tools provided by your hard drive manufacturers?

It could be a FAIL.

I haven't but my friend was saying that it's Windows that failed, not my drive or anything. I'm currently able to access my drive, since I have it in as a secondary.

rebuild your boot sector. I don't know if Vista has a recovery console or not but a bootcfg /rebuild might fix your problem

When I put my DVD in I have access to a console, so I should just type that in and it should fix it? Could it possibly mess the drive up more, and make it inaccessible or anything?

Thanks.

Put your disc in, restart the pc, and keep tapping Esc while it's starting up.

You should see a menu that allows you to select "Boot from CD/DVD".

Do a Repair.

I tried doing a repair, it says if you plugged in a new device, to unplug it, or it says restart, but it doesn't do anything.

Will that console command work?

I tried the 'bootcfg /rebuild' command , it didn't work, nor did typing /bootrec.exe and then trying /FixBoot and /FixMBr.

I'm in the CMD in the Recovery section of the OS DVD, and when I first start the CMD up, it has 'X:/Sources>' with a blinking _.
