Best gaming laptop for 2500

hey just graduated and got a bunch of cash to get a new laptop. It will be hooked up to a 54' 1080p monitor alot so graphics is important. It will mainly be used for gaming and HD media. HDMI or DVI output is a must. im pretty noob :)

@LOL at that laptop - Much bigger, low quality quad, you can configure a bigger hdd (500gb) on the m17x for under $2500 still
@op, "bomberboysk" tried to suggest the same "laptop" in this thread http://www.computerforum.com/152743-getting-new-gaming-laptop.html, and the op there did not give in - you can see some of the advantages of the M17X there and disadvantages of the other "laptop" there as well.

I highly, highly recommend Asus. Not only do they have a killer warranty but they are much better quality. I set up an alienware with the exact same specs (only difference was gpu) and it came to $3,222. That Asus will be able to play any game you throw at it, and it will kill most of them. I'm going to assume that they'll be about the same weight, but if you want a true gaming laptop than it's going to be heavy and it's going to suck battery. Does it absolutely have to be a laptop? Because with 2500 you can build a killer desktop, and have cash left over to buy a laptop for web browsing/homework.

If you're going to be using it for classes I'd recommend something more along the lines of this:

My friend has a 17" laptop and that thing is massive, seriously. This one will be able to run pretty much all modern games at decent settings, plus you'll actually be able to use it on battery unlike the alienware or the asus Bomber recommended.

Actually 1.4" isnt a whole lot, and its actually lighter than the alienware. Plus a Q9000 is better than a dual core, no matter what the speed...(well, unless you had say a 4Ghz dual core, but that aint happenin..) Plus $2399 is with only a 1440x900 screen, Lowest end cpu that alienware offers, and smallest hdd alienware. Plus a two year warranty with a year of accidenatal damage protection is pretty sweet.
 
a desktop would be fine if i had enough to get a laptop for school. this is mainly for college plus ill be bringing it back n fourth during the weekends and such so a gaming laptop would be sort of ideal. keep the opinions comming. A good debate will help me decide better :)
 
I would say for 2500 you could get both. Go with the laptop I gave you, it can play most games on decent settings and will be pretty good for class, and then build something like this:

Something someone said on a newegg review :)

Now for people who would say the x1 model is better for gaming. On benchmarks it is, but in real life use using two cores at 2.0ghz is quite enough for todays games. Most of todays games dont use 4 cores. They are more demanding on the GPU. But games that require alot of proccessing power do support mulit core. Simply said in real life gaming you wont notice a difference with the quad at lower speeds, but in 3 years the people who bought the dual core model will be wishing they stuck with quad core.

There's only a 16% difference and that's now, in a year or 2 that's going to change and it's only 90 people (not 85 :D)
 
Why would you get something now and replace it in 1 year?
