What's the safest way to clean an LCD monitor screen?

I was eating at my computer and then I coughed. Now there's extra residue there.

Can I just use water, or what?

Thanks!
Andrew

Use a lint free cloth such as an e-cloth or a glasses lens cleaner cloth. If you don't have one then a piece of kitchen roll will do. If it is a stubborn stain then you could use water BUT if it is the sort of material that is on LCD/plasma Tvs don't do that it will leave smears and possibly they may be permanent. you will need to get special cleaner fluid. Just go down to your nearest electrical store that sells those TVs and ask them for which they would recomend, it will be maybe $10 or so for a bottle but saves having to pay a couple hundred for a new monitor when you *%^( the screen up ;)

I read on another thread that rubbing alcohol with a soft cloth is okay, so I did that. It seems to have done the trick, so I hope it was safe to do.=)

I just wet a washcloth with warm water and ring it out really well.

Works perfect and it's free.

anti-static cloths will collect all dust particles with out getting it wet. To clean smudge marks you can use rubbing alcohol cut with water, since it is non conductive.

Yeah, that's fine. I just don't like putting chemicals on the plastic screen.

I do this with the monitor powered off of course, so conductivity is not an issue.

Alcohol is commonly used to clean plastic parts it is non corrosive and non conductive.
