I don't know if I would give the 4850 that much credit lol. I know for a fact that HD4850 is pretty much on par with the GTS250 (9800GTX+) and that the HD4870 is on par with the GTX260 Core 216. Was the Core 192 that bad?

Lets put it this way, as far as fill rate is concerned the 9800gtx and 9800gtx+ both beat the GTX260, and are similar to the core 216. But the GTX260 kills the 9800gtx/9800gtx+ in memory bandwidth...
