Is it worth it? 9950 BE to Phenom II

Hey, so right now I have an AMD Phenom X4 9950 BE. Definitely not a bad chip, really. The only real gripe I have with it is overclocking. It's 2.6 GHz stock, and I have a hell of a time getting past 3.0 GHz. I was thinking about getting a Phenom II since my motherboard supports AM2+/AM3. However, I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. I will still be using DDR2 PC6400 RAM. Do you guys think it would be worth it to go from what I have now to say a X4 940 BE or a X4 955 BE?

As long as you have a decent cooler, the 940 would be a good upgrade. Tbh though, the 920 clocks nearly as good and is $40(25% or so) cheaper, just 200mhz slower stock and no unlocked multi...

I have a Zerotherm 92mm cooler, so I'm not too worried about that. One of the big things for me is the unlocked multiplier. The last 2 processors I've owned have been BE ones. (X2 5000+ and X4 9950) If overclocking is as good as I see it around here it seems worth it.

I have 2 8800 GT's in SLi. Will this be bottlenecking either the GPU's or the CPU?

Nice signature.

Thanks. Tis true, is it not?

What do you guys think? Is the Phenom 9950 Quad-Core Processor, the two 8800 GT video cards in Scalable Link Interface (SLI) or other hardware causing a bottleneck in his system? He uses his system for Photoshop CS4 and converting Audio Video Interleave (AVI) files.

Edit: In my opinion I think the biggest bottleneck in your system for doing the above tasks is your processor.

is your cpu/gpu(s) overclocked?
im sure that would make a difference
or even the amount of ram?
i would say its the cpu but i think
further investigation is required!

If you do upgrade your CPU dont get a Phenom II AM2+. Get a AM3, that way later if you decide to upgrade your board to AM3 and to DDR3 the processor will support it.
