Gta 4

GTA 4 has been marked down from 60$ to 35$ at futureshop and I was thinking of getting it, I am already a fan of previous GTA games (San Andreas, Vice City, GTA 3) but I heard GTA 4 was very buggy, is it worth getting it?

I immediately updated to 1.0.3.0 when I got it so I can't say how it performed in previous versions, however it does work well on my computer. GTAIV hasn't crashed once and I've played it quite a bit, probably so much that I could have played through it two or three times. I haven't noticed any bugs that detract from gameplay.

Okay thanks :D That answered my question : P

yeah it does have loads of bugs but as long as you patch it and download latest drivers it will be fine. it is deffo worth getting, more so for $35

I would recommend it, especially since in your OP you seemed nervous about bugs.

You could skim through the patch notes to see what they fix but generally they do help ;)

I dont have experience with the GTA4 patches but I think people on here talked about them helping performance.

Okay I'll install them all then :D
Thanks for the fast reply :)

EDIT: It will only let me download the two latest patches :S

idk but even at low settings this game can still lag for me. i havent installed patches but its a pain.

i was wondering this too, i sure hope its not buggy.

It's not very buggy. :)
My fps are very low though (with medium to high settings), I get around 11 to 21, haven't seen it go over 30 unless there is a cutscene playing but it is very playable and it's great :D
Love the cars! Graphics are amazing! :D

I've modded the game a bit to give better performance and still have the game look good.

Ultimate Graphics Tweak
Modified FarClip value

By changing the FarClip value to a higher one (I use the 3000 version, default is 1500) you can see much farther and not have the haze cut your line of sight. This coupled with the depth of field in the Ultimate Graphics Tweak allows you to lower the value of View Distance and Detail Distance, giving better performance, with far away buildings still looking pretty good because of the blur.

I'm not sure whether GTAIV still enforces a file check to make sure nothing has been tampered with. I do however have an ASI-loader and ScriptHook which is necessary for a lot of mods and you should probably get too if you want to modify the game. The ASI-loader I have does however take away the possibility of playing GTAIV online but you can make a copy of the GTAIV folder before installing the ASI-loader and just switch between folders when you want to play offline and online. The good thing about the ASI-loader I use, XLiveless, is that it disables the need to have Rockstar Social Club and Games For Windows Live running, which in turn should free up more system resources that can be used by GTAIV.

Thanks for the info :D

I saw your screenshots in the Official Screenshot Thread and I thought I'd post a screenshot of how far everything can be seen with the FarClip modification.

The picture is resized down from 1680x1050, here's the original.

Unfortunately JPEG compression makes the images look much worse and details disappear. :(

And by having depth of field enabled the game looks good even if you lower the view and detail distance to increase performance. In essence, textures on far away objects are of lower quality but it isn't an eyesore when everything is a bit blurry, like it should be when it isn't in focus.
