combine partitions into one (without deleting data)

Awhile ago I split one of my drives into two partitions, but now one of them is filling up and the other has lots of space. Is it possible to combine them?

I should also mention that since then I have gone and installed Windows 7 on one of them and it now gives me a message saying that if I extend the partition into some free space from the other one, I will not be able to boot an operating system from it.

Currently I have two partitions, both almost full, as well as a large unformatted volume.

You should be able to use partition magic or similar programs (GParted, Windows Vista disk management, etc) to do it. You'll might lose the ability to boot from the partition that you are removing space from, I'm not sure, I've never tried it.

partition magic works well. it will easily move the data as needed.
im also curious though about gparted or whats built into the operating system.

the built in tool MAY work, but it says it will remove bootability... i will try partition magic.
