ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB?

Hey I was wondering if i had this vedio card (ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB) in my computer with a Intel® Core™ i7-920 Processor(8MB L3 Cache, 2.66GHz). Would i be able to game hardcore like new games coming out?

Also wanted to know if the NVIDIA's GeForce GTS 250 graphics card with 1GB GDDR3 is better than ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB? Or do both give great gaming visuals.
 
At that price, might as well spend the couple bucks extra on a 4870 if your looking at a gts250, the gts250 is around $120 and the 4870 can be had for around $120.
