Need some help!

Okay, now I know this is the OS section, but I'm not sure how to place this, so I went with the one that had the most viewers.

My friend is having a problem, she can't watch videos! At all! Sometimes they sound will play, and then like every 30 seconds a picture will pop up, and change. Sometimes it locks up, crashes, and she has to use Take Manager to escape it.

She's using a Dell with Windows XP professional, she does not have Firefox updated, she only has 512 MB RAM.

Any help would be appreciated!

ive had this problem before on my Xp system.

what i did was...

Unintall and re-install the graphics drivers.
Install VLC player, and then install the K-Lite Codec Pack 5.0.0 Full from here.

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm

Make sure she has Flash installed, also the windows media plugin for firefox, thats if she uses firefox.

that fixed my problem.

How would she go about un and re installing the graphics driver?

I would also recommend downloading and installing the newest version of Direct X for XP, which should be like version 9.0c I think.

Since almost all audio and video use the DX APIs.

To reinstall the driver find out what video card you have via Device Manager, then go into the internet and go to the company's site who makes the card. They will have a downloads section where you can look up the video card and download and install the newest drivers.
