Ok I've read alot of posts on this forum and other were people ask advice about a game they have downloaded and automatically someone jumps on claiming that the person is a pirate. With so many digital distributors these days I dont understand why people automatically thing "omg your a pirate" off the top of my head I can think of several download sites that are legal and then there are things like steam. Come on people stop thinking the worst of people and wake up.

So people how many of you download games and when you hear of others doing it do you automatically thing "pirate".

Mostly because when you get something from steam you have to buy it (unless it is free, then you say "got") and so when you just say 'downloaded' then it just sounds like you pirated it.
For future reference say you bought and got it and we will all be happy.

WTF is with the poll, like anybody is going to admit they download games illegaly, are you a coppa or something jeez, I thought common sense was common...

Yeah i have noticed that these days you say "Downloaded" and everyones bitching about something illegal goin on.

Theres genuine download sites/apps out there that allow you to buy the games and download them when you want.

Such as

EA Download manager
Steam

As for the question, yes i do download games,I have around 7 on steam :)

Yeh I have games on steam too. But there are people who do download games illegally and have actually posted about it on here, so there are pirates (not the Somali's) in the world wide web.

If I can't buy the CD/DVD of a game...I don't get it.

I got screwed by DigitalRiver when I bought Front Lines: Fuel of War and Call of Duty 4 through the Nvidia Games section. I bought them and downloaded the files and installed the games without an issue. When I tried to install a patch from my normal sites...they would not install. Through many calls to Nvidia and DigitalRiver...you have to have a special patch for that game since it is a download and it was downloaded through DigitalRiver. I gave up after I think, my 5th call to DigitalRiver...The support team does not speak English. I talked to an Oriental guy and an Indian guy trying to explain my situation. The Indian guy finally after about 15 minutes of word by word English to him, he gave me a link for the correct patch. The link did not work:(

Never again will I not buy the actual CD/DVD version of a game.

All of my games so far I have bought with the CD/DVD, but I wouldn't have a problem downloading a game as long it was from some where like steam.

I mean I do prefer games from the CD, but I have never had a problem downloading through steam. But with CD/DVD's you also have the install limits, if you lose the cd/dvd or the case or if it gets scratched and so on. But then again you have to waste precious downloads (yes in Aus we have download limits) and bandwidth when you download it.

You just have to weigh out the odds.

I don't download games at all actually I don't even buy PC games the only game I have is Flight Simulator X and it was give to me. I don't blame people for downloading games illegally especially with the recession the way it is but I don't do it because I don't play PC games and if i did then newegg has games for like $8 so I would just get one of those.

i noticed someone voted they downloaded games illegally....Even though its wrong i can see why they do it,Games these days are not cheap, not only that they seem to be getting a nightmare with all these copy protection software they're not putting on them, even the legitimate buyer can run into trouble with getting their own games to even activate again and games support is not always there for us when we need help.

As ive found out :D

I prefer downloading off of steam instead of going out and buying cds, it's quicker and I don't have any dang c.d keys that can be lost!

Obviously I would never download pirated games. ;) (I used to about 2 ~3 years ago, but havnt done that anymore since. Now i usually buy them in a store. (even the steam games.) I prefer having a legal hard copy of a game, rahter than jsut a download permition from some company.

I buy them but I always try to play them first. games that don't offer actual game play demos I tend to not buy, unless it looks really sweet. Then again, that is what Gamestop is for. If you buy and hate it, since most places won't refund money on software you can go trade it in at gamestop and get a store credit for another game or get some cash. You are losing money either way but at least it isn't a complete loss.

honestly I have downloaded a game illegally before. I dont do it know but when games can cost over $100 I understand why people do. I have also downloaded a copy of a game that I legally own but lost one disc that goes with it. Maybe there should be more try before you buy options then people could try a game figure if they like it then buy or not buy it. Trymedia is ok but not a great range.
