Are you thinking of an uninterpretable power supply?

you can get a quality surge protector at your local dollar store or hardware store dont pay to much for a surge protector

I wouldnt say that, power coming in is one of the most important things, between the surge supressor/power filter/ups and the power supply, can help your power supply and components to last longer due to more stable voltage input. Tripp-lite makes excellent surge supressors, and can be had for a decent price off of say, newegg. Some good ones can be had for ~$20, while industrial grade ones can cost much more. Best to put a few extra bucks where it counts imo.

what im asking here - if all of a sudden i get a power drop in my house (lightning storm, exc...) and i want to keep my computer running till i save my project.
whats the name of this device?

It all depends on how long you want power for. The longer you want it to stay on the more it will cost.

Well, take in consideration if you will have it fully loaded with printer, monitor, computer, or other devices. If you only have a couple devices on it, then yeah that will work.

im using two Belkins 550va. my computer has 3 gig processor, 4 burners, two drives and two 24" monitors. it works fine. Lost power one time. its enough to shut down properly. didn't care about that. i wanted the added protection. they also say they guarantee it. don't have much issues though with underground cable. its usually associated with losing a power grid. On the otherhand good protection is needed with the surge. When they put the power back on line. yours will be fine.

i do have a mixer and 2 monitor speakers aswell, then probably i will go for at least 1000VA...

thanks alot guys your help is appriciated!
