You guys heard of this? I'm so getting this edition of MW2.

The practice of making extravagant "Collector's Editions" of video games is as old as gaming itself, but it looks like Activision is about to kick it up a notch.
Night Vision Goggles

When the anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is released on November 10, its $150 Prestige Edition will include what's surely the most extravagant bundled bonus ever -- a fully-functioning pair of night-vision goggles.

An Activision community manager made the announcement in a Youtube video, where he unboxes and shows off the goggles, which carry the game's branding. The Prestige Edition also includes a head-shaped display stand for the goggles, an art book, and fancy limited-edition packaging.

Modern Warfare 2's night-vision specs will join a proud tradition of crazy video game pack-ins, including Halo 3's infamous cat helmet, The Sims 3's plumbob-shaped USB drive, and Fallout 3's oversized watch and bobble-head doll, which was featured in the game, too.

It'll retail at $150, and considering that even basic night vision goggles easily run over $100 on their own, it actually sounds like a pretty good deal. All the same, as far as we can determine, it's the most expensive retail video game bundle in history, discounting games that came with their own custom controllers.

So if you're keen to play Modern Warfare 2 (as the follow-up to easily the best game of '07, you should be) and you're keen to spy on your neighbors, you'd better get saving.

I already have the cash, just gotta stop myself from spending. >.< I restrained myself from buying Ghostbusters and Prototype.

They only had the collector's edition when I reserved it. I might see if I can change my reservation to prestige next time I make a payment.

But we all know that night vision goggles for that cheap aren't going to be that great.

Yeah, because a decent pair of NVGs usually costs around $300.

More like 500-1000$. Im not expecting a whole lot from them.

Frankly though, is anyone else worried? I mean, if you look everywhere you can pre-order the prestige edition for Xbox and PS3, but not for PC. Surly Activision isnt dumb enough to exclude us are they?

I was wondering the same thing. They are actually technically not night vision goggles, its just an IR illuminator. Real nvg's use light multipliers and work off of exisiting light from stars/moon/etc, because if the military were to use IR nvg's, someone with an ir viewer would be able to spot them quite easily. Its night vision on the cheap though..
 
Sweet...

They would be pretty awesome.

However after a while they would get a bit unused and they seem like a not needed accessory.
But I Would Still Love To Have 'em

btw I am definitively Buying the game.
COD4 Was awesome and really hope this turns out just as great (or at least better than cod5)

they are probably going to have some chinese plastic NVG's that you will end up giving to your 3 year old son to throw around.

Anyone heard anything abour the ranking system? Will your ransk still be saved on our own machines or do they now have a proper ranking server?

I hate having to save my own account....usualy plays up when i retore it :cool:

Hope they make MW2 better than the first one tough. (AI wise)
Didnt like how you could shoot 1 ai in the head, and the next one would take his spot right away, ready to get shot too. O.o
