Extending Desktop to HDTV

Hey all, I am trying to extend my computer's desktop onto an HDTV. I know how to do that, but it's not giving me proper resolution options for the HDTV. The highest widescreen resolution it offers me is 1440x900, but the HDTV is a 1090p, so I should be seeing an option of 1920x1080, right? Is it because it's a VGA cable? Any insight is appreciated.

probably not, because my 52 inch sony lcd, only lets me set resolution up to 1280 by 1080.

I have mine connected to HDTV 50 inch, i have full screen and have resolution 1440x900 pixels, and it is good quality, watch HD films on it. Although, obviousely you would not be getting HD quality up through VGA, if you use HDMI, or DVI, then it would be more like HD quality, and you must have 1080p screen, just to point out a small mistake. there is not such quality as 1090.

Also it depends on the video card that you have. If it supports higher resolution then yes, this is to Russian777. You will only be able to get the full HDTV 1080 resolution if you have a projector with 1080p lens, and a good HDTV video Card.
