Quad Core Users

Dont know if this is a problem or not on my side....or even a problem at all but has any of you quad core users noticed that when doing cpu intensive tasks such as Decompressing very large files or converting movies that Core 1 and core 4 seems to do all the work?

3 usualy sits there idle and core 2 does a little bit.

Its fast at doing its job but,Just wonder why...is it because the software like Convert X to dvd is not desighned to take advantage of all the cores?

I notice that all the time...sometimes 1 single core does all the work...sometimes 3 cores do all the work. It changes depending on the app that is running.

My number #1 core is always about 5-7c hotter than the rest of the chip.

The only time I ever max out all four cores is when playing GTA IV. All other times, Its usually the first two in use most of the time.

Yeah when i play GTA IV all are busy :P

But its nice how all cores are handling the game...more games should be like this now.

that could be due to a faulty heat sensor in the chip, its very comon!

best way to check is to get all 4 cores up to 100% usage then check the temps there should be no more than 3c difference...

my q6600 had a faulty temp sensor!

i did notice when doin tasks that all 4 cores wernt getting used, when i would convert a video file it would use 2 cores but then the other 2 i could use without harming the conversion process

My issue I think comes from the fact that once I hit the power button...all 4 cores are maxed running SMP client:D The entire time my computer is on...it is wide open CPU and GPU!

I do have a difference between all the cores.

I am running a 45nm Quad on a motherboard that is not supposed to even support the chip in the first place.

10c difference between the coolest and the hottest hmmm, doesnt matter really as long as they arnt at there thermal limit

i'v never even thought of looking during winrar i got a 64bit version of winrar. gta4 does use a lot of resources.

You think that would be hard on the cpu.
Havent seen any negative consequences, and i have my desktop and both laptops running f@h 24/7.

Still have the P5N-E sli? If so it does support 45nm's:
