Which PCI Graphics Card To Buy Less Than $100?

I need to purchase a PCI graphics card (not PCI express) for less than $100. I realize that it is very not cost effective to buy a PCI card because they are so much more expensive for a card that isn't as good as PCI Express, but it is my only option. My client cannot afford a new computer at the moment, or a new motherboard (it's a dell, it would be a pain to try to replace the motherboard with something decent anyway).

Basically it needs to run Counter Strike, preferably even newer games than that, but I understand that can be difficult for a PCI card less than $100.

What do you think? Geforce 6200? Radeon HD2400? Geforce 8400GS? Geforce 9400GT? Geforce FX5200? Radeon 9250?

I do not know much about these older cards, especially with PCI.

Thoughts on value and performance would be greatly appreciated.
 
I ran Counter Strike: Source with the FX5200, but I wouldn't use that. Anyways, Give me a moment, I will link you to a card that will handle, with ease, anything it seems you will be doing.


I have a little off the subject question here, if you have 'clients' shouldnt you know how to deal with this by yourself? Just crossed my mind and wanted to ask.

Not the most impressive GPU on the block but it will run CS without to much issue.


Also the "client" is probably a buddy of his not a actual paying client. Most people who build for $$$ know enough about building systems not to have to ask here.

Sounds to me like it wouldnt run most dedicated cards to begin with, as dell power supplies can barely run the system as is, since they use very low quality utterly rubbish power supplies.. PCI will severely limit anything halfway decent, as it has a very low bus data transfer rate. Although as far as pci cards are concerned, this is probably the only thing halfway decent at that pricepoint, and even though its an utter piece of crap, its quite a bit better than a 9400gt as it has double the memory bit width.

Your better off saving some money until you can replace the motherboard, as you can get motherboards with pci-express that are decent for around $60, and even a $50 pci-e card such as a 4650 GDDR3 can be had for around $50, but then you would more than likely need a better power supply due to the low quality units in a dell system.

and you have to have like a min of 3 sentances to make a new one. last time I looked at my post there wasnt but one. ill fix it for you.
 
If your Dell psu has 300watts and 18 amps, you wil be able to run the 9400GT fine, it may be able to play the 9500GT, but not positive, i installed an 8400GT, in my friends 300watt dell psu and runs flawlessly.
 
Yes, I Am Paid

Someone asked if I am paid. Yes. I just did not do any of this 15 years ago before they had AGP. I have not had a client ask for a PCI card and refuse a new system before.
