Vista SP2 will not install?

I am running Vista Ultimate on 2 desktops and 2 laptops , 3 machines have installed SP2 without any issues but the 2nd desktop (which is running the same mobo/cpu as the other one) keeps giving install error code.

  • I've tried the seperate ISO SP2 download (both the 5 language and the multi)
  • I've tried to remove all language packs except for default but cannot remove.
  • I've run SFC /SCANNOW (with vista disk in tray) and it finds 'some errors' but cannot repair .
  • I've run AV and Malwarebytes etc with 'nothing found'

  • I've tried installing with AV and Firewall turned off

  • I've tried installing in SAFE MODE/SAFE MODE with NETWORKING.
Could it be the HDD cache at fault as I've run Micro-Scope and Hitachi's disk health check with nothing found but the CACHE is the only thing I can't test.

What error are you getting? Have you tried testing the memory using memtest and the hard drive by downloading drive makers disk utility to scan the drive?

I can install all other updates but just not SP2:confused:

The other 4 PC's are fine .

On this problem PC, I can even install Win7 RC1 but I changed back to Vista because my TV card wasn't/isn't supported yet.

Well a few pc's will have a problem updating to a new service pack. You may have to slipstream it into a new install cd. Remember when XP SP2 came out? There were tons of people who were having problems installing it.

Ok .. thanks for advice :)

One other thing I may try is Reinstalling Vista from scratch and import all my Docs/music/pics etc back in from my 3rd HDD but first make a nice fresh Acronis image of my current system to my 2nd HDD just in case it still doesn't work and I can just reload the image I was using with SP1:)
