Need Advice on New Desktop

Hey, I'm in the market for a new computer and need to speak with the experts. Can you help with a design, model, and vendor?

It needs to be powerful. I'm wondering if a gaming system- from tiger direct or newegg- would be best(I don't game.)

The system should be able to handle at least two monitors, and lots of power to multi task while running videos.

It needs to be stable. My current 1.1g Gateway model from 2000 is still working well, but is underpowered.

Have been looking on a few sites and ebay, how much do I need to spend?

What is the fastest processor, ram, etc setup available? Is anything new coming around the corner?

Thanks.

Some things that would be good to know:

- Your budjet
- If it is around 1200-1300 and less you should look the AMD route while if you want to spend more, a I7 would be the route to take.

I cannot really make you a build without knowing your budget.

Am willing to pay what is needed, but don't want to pay more than necessary.

Had a call with a guy at i buy power and he suggested a basic computer of an intel core i7, with 6g of ram, with gtx(s) video cards.

Are you going to build one yourself or buy one from ibuypower?

I don't know what exactly multitasking you are doing. If you have $1200 - 1300 core i7 920 is the the way to go.

Will not be building it myself. Just found out about ibuypower a few days ago. Pretty neat.

Any items to pay attention to?...i.e. heat sinks, motherboards...

PSU...PSU...and PSU, Ibuypower puts crappy ones in their builds and it can fry everything.

Make sure to put the extra money to get something worth it (OCZ,Corsair..., anything with a good brand name.)

Never get a chienese made brand!!!

I have a look at ibuypower.com
Go for the weekly gamer special.
I suggest you change -
PSU to Consair 750W
Video card to GTS 250 512MB.
OS: Vista Home Premium 64bit, free upgrade to windows 7

Why do the power supplys come in so many different wattages?

What is the difference to the user between a 32 and 64 bit machine?

Was thinking of staying with xp.

You do realize that literally every power supply out there is made in China right. Even Seasonic units are now produced in China.

Because wattage requirements are different for all PCs out there.

And a 32 bit OS can address a maximum of 4GB of ram while a 64 bit OS can address much much more, though I don't remember the exact number.

Are there software or hardware compatibility issues with 64 bit machines? Thought I read that somewhere. Or do they work just like 32bit computers.
