Gamer looking for some help...

Hello guys, been going thru some stressful days lately just trying to figure out what's perfect for me. I live in Puerto Rico and I'm a gamer, but im on a budget and not every company ships to Puerto Rico. But at the same time, I want quality, just not the newest technology available. I just want to buy a computer that will serve me for eveything I want.

Couple of days ago, I wen't to the Hewlett-Packard website and discovered they have some kind of customizable options where you can choose some parts you want. That is good because most of the computers HP sells come with alot of Memory Ram and Hard Drive but not that great video cards.

In the HP website, I can like choose less Ram and get a good video card and save myself some cash and get a good monitor included for a great price. I found any better deals yet.

Now here is the thing, my father is a Intel user for life. He says I shouln't buy AMD because he has never used em and is sure Intel is way better. Same thing with video cards, he says Nvidia is better because of the same reason. I understand that and I might as well just do that and but a Intel.

Would love some suggestions on what to get anyways. Here are some of the specs I have in mind.

Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 GHz)
640 GB Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
6 GB of Memory RAM
1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250

All this is for like 859$ - That's more than my budget, but I can do something about it.

Anyways, I would like to know what do you guys think? Is Hewlett-Packard the way to go? Here are my current specs:

Windows XP
Intel Pentium 4 (2.00 GHz)
60 GB Hard Drive
1 GB of Memory Ram
256 MB NVidia GeForce 5500 FX

All the help will be apreciated .

There is nothing wrong with hp but make sure you re format the computer when you get it so it doesnt have all of their crap on it like (aol, msn mess, trials). I never had problems with dell tho back in the day

How would a defrag get rid of all that crap?

Thanks for the quick reply guys. As I stated, I am on a budget. But I am Intel/NVidia all the way. The thing is I really don't know about AMD/ATI. All I know is that if im getting Intel I might want Nvidia and if I get AMD i'll go with ATI video card. Not sure tough I don't know much about computers just the basics.

If your're gonna customize a computer... (do you want a desktop or laptop?)
Make sure you know what you're getting. A lot of those customization things can rip you off.

I just bought a $4,500 Dell Precision m4400.
But really it cost me about 3,900 because I ordered parts that can be easily replaced (aka: ram, harddrive).

Let's say 8 GB of ram from dell built into the computer cost me 580 dollars. I'll order the minimum 1GB and than I can buy 8 gigs of ram from newegg for about half that price and install it myself.

Same goes for the harddrive.

And do a quick search for HP Coupons on google. I did for that 4,500 computer. And I found a 30 percent off coupon. But with the upgrades I'm doing myself that computer that should have theoretically cost me 4,500 I got for 3,000.

And honestly, Intel Amd Nvidia Ati.
There really is no difference. But, people always have their reasons.

If you're gonna customize a computer then I think HP and Dell are your two best bets.

A $4,500 computer from dell is "theoretically" worth about half that.

Exacly! Dell is expensive as heck! I was customizing one from Dell and man with the same specs as the one from HP it was like 800$ more. And HP is a great company too.

Exactly, but then again laptops are generally so much more expensive than desktops. But, I needed something with solid build quality, and something which so much random crap I probably didn't need.

Yeah, I like hp and dell... but, problems with HP never with dell.
But for some people they've had problems with Dell and never HP so it's all personal preference.

I prefer sager for notebooks, great build quality and much better prices than dell. For desktops i build my own.

Yeah, I build my own pc's but, I won a scholarship online for a computer up to 3,000 so I decided to get the most expensive thing basically. lmao.
Thanks fastweb.com! lol

Hey guys I wanna know something else. Is the Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33GHz good enough or should I get a better Processor?
