Dual GTX 295s worth it?

Im going to cut to the chase. Are 2 GTX 295's worth it for my rig? And will my PSU be able to support 2 of these monsters? My other question is I have the RED EDITION GTX by EVGA. If I get a different kind of GTX (for example, the new FTW edition) would it matter? Or would I HAVE to get another Red Edition....

Any help GREATLY appreciated.

your psu will definately handle them, and as long as they are both GTX 295's, they will work, but if one is clocked higher than the other, it will underclock itself to match the others speed. but is it worth it? honestly i dont think so. a gtx295 can play any game out there, so unless you have dual moniters with massive resolution, then no.

Thanks for the quick reply. Well my main reason to get 2 graphics cards was to get the full potential out of my computer that I recently built. For some reason Fallout 3 has been lagging alittle each time I fire a weapon, not bad but enough to get annoying. Settings on HIGH. I cant play it on Ultra High and I wish I could; the game skips pretty rough on ultra high. I also wish I could get more out of GTAIV (i.e; view distance, etc..). I also plan on getting a bigger (30'' or so) monitor in the near future. I would love to have dual monitors, and I will start looking at the prices of them because I dont know anything about having duals...

My main question is, if I were to get 2 GTX's, would my games be able to run better and smoother, especially with QUAD SLi mode? Whoever has SLi mode, is it really a big difference?

Are you running your current card in SLI mode?

I dont know for sure....im new to the SLI scene. Is there a way to check? Im currently in the NVIDIA control panel looking and dont see anything

On EVGA Precision I have it set to:

Core Clock: 680
Shader Clock: 1466 (AUTO)
Memory Clock: 1280
Fan: 65

Is that a stable setup? Or can I push it more?

It should be on the lower left hand side of the nVidia control panel I think.

Not certain though, but to enable SLI mode, it's in there somewhere.

You shouldn't be lagging at all in FA3.
I Have my 720 @ 3.2ghz and my 4850 at like 750/1115 and at 1680x1050 i have most settings maxed.

I think that's why he posted here.

Any suggestions? Know anything about enabling SLI mode in the nVidia
Control Panel?

EDIT: A quick Google search found this:

start>control panel>nvidia control pane One of the tabs on the side should be "sli, ect" and it should allow you to enable sli.

Two GTX295's would be a massive waste of money. One is already more than enough for anything out there at the moment.

I took 2 pics, see if it helps you guys. I dont see anything that says SLI mode anywhere, and ive gone through every tab.....

Set "Physx GPU" to Disabled.

Right now I think you're only using one card for graphics, and the other for
Physx.

Once you disable the Physx GPU, an SLI mode might appear somewhere.

Not sure, this is just what I've found online with some research.

Off to bed now, and I hope this solves your issue. :)

I set the Physx GPU to disabled. And no more tabs popped up saying anything about SLI. I have downloaded the SLI Enhancement and will tweak with it tomorrow morning to see if anything worth while as changed. Ill update tomorrow

Thanks everyone for the fast help

Yeah with a 295 you should never lag @ 1440x900 I run maxed with a 260 in Fallout 3 and its far inferior :)

You could try downloading nhancer think of it as a advanced nvidia control panel http://www.nhancer.com/

Try enabling SLI that way it worked on AA3 on my friends 295.

Also do you have the new 190.38 drivers? It was suppose to do something magical for SLI users.

get 2 GTX 285s over 2 GTX 295s

Im not getting rid of my 295 to buy 2 285s. Thats a waste of money.

Im downloading nhancer atm and going to give it a shot, ill upload some pictures of in-game for a variety of games to show you the picture, etc. Especially GTA because I think thats the one that needs the most work.

Using nHancer....

I dont think it did anything, and it might of made it worse. FC2 lags when I start running, and it hasnt always done that, it used to be really smooth. But it was doing it before I did the nhancer and I couldnt figure out why; just started doing it all a sudden one day. GTA is just messed up, looks so jagged. Look at the guys face infront of Niko, its like blurry. Every edge looks so jagged and lined. I cant figure out why my games arnt working to their full potential, especially with this setup..... Thats why im wondering if I should get Dual GTX295s...

Something funny is going on here. Your setup is more than enough to run these games beautifully. Your card might have something faulty in it, or your computer may possibly be infected with malicious software. Although seeing as how you're obviously not technically ignorant, you probably take reasonably good care of your windows install. I doubt it's temps seeing as how it starts almost immediately into a game. If your drivers are up to date, I'm almost thinking hardware. I'm reluctant to suggest it with all your hardware being so high quality, but to my relatively inexperienced mind, it leans towards that. Hopefully another member can come up with another less bleak option.
