When on newegg they have so many different types of ATX cases and everytime I try to search google or wiki-pedia I get different answers.

ATX / BTX Tower (5)
ATX Desktop (12)
ATX Full Tower (110)
ATX Mid Tower (460)
ATX Mini Tower (5)
MicroATX Desktop (57)
MicroATX Mid Tower(28)
MicroATX Mini Tower(56)
MicroATX Slim Case(9)
Mini-ITX Tower(46)
Mini-ITX Desktop(5)

I don't care about ITX and Micro atx but... atx mini tower and above... if anyone can give me an explanation...

get the Phenom II X3 710 for $99, better than either of those dual cores.

Do you think a triple core is necessary?
I'm building this on a budget so the 79.99 3.0 dual core stands out. But, if this one is definitely worth the extra few bucks I'll get it.

A standard "ATX Mid Tower (460)" would be just fine for the build I assume you have in mind. That is the size of case I would say 75% of people have. You can find nice prices on good cases. Some can be found for less than $60.

This is good advice...the $20 extra will be worth it. You'll thank yourself later for the triple core.

What is your total budget?

Future games are going to be needing more cores vs less highly clock cores.

Nothing fancy. Around 400-600

EDIT:
Please read first post again. Thanks.

Eh, do you think I should change it? I can't find a AM3 with DDR2 for less than $85.
Technically it would be an AM2+ motherboard, such as one of these(crossfire capable):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131398

And yes, all of those boards will support a phenom II.
