Graphics Card Question

I am looking into buying a GTX 275 graphics card.

But here's the thing. There is no GTX 275's that are made for a BioStar Motherboard(which I have)

But Right now I have a crappy 7200GS, but it is for a branded XFX bit it works on my biostar motherboard. I dont know how it is but it is. My question is will the XFX GTX 275 work on my motherboard too?

The brand of the card does not have to be the same brand as the motherboard as long as your motherboard has a PCIe x16 slot any card will work. You should look at a ATI Radeon 4870 they preform the same as a GTX 275 but are cheaper.

Like said you can use any brand of card. But if your going from a 7200GS to a GTX 275 you better make sure your power supply can push it.

The 4870 is pretty equal to a GTX 260. For a GTX 275 it would take a 4890

Actually a 4870 once overclocked is about the same as a GTX 275 a 4890 is better then a GTX 275 and about equal to a GTX 285 once overclocked.

Is overclocking a new secret your letting me in on or is this a new side tracking game we are doing?

I'm not side tracking just letting you know that you are only 50% right.

Like I said the 4870 and GTX 260. And the 4890 and GTX 275 are pretty much equal to each other.

Year anyway you dont need the same brand as the motherboard as long as you have the correct PCI-E slot, shouldnt you get the graphics card to suit the processor and ram you already have so its a balanced system? Also yer be carefull with power supply.

I never said that they weren't equal to each other because they are at stock but once over clocked a 4870 will be the same as a GTX 275 and a 4890 will be the same as a GTX 285. Like I said before your only half right but your are right.

Whoa xD it's 4870 vs gtx 260 and GTX275 vs 4890 once you overclock the 4890 it gets closer to the GTX285 not the same as it

Some 4890's can OC more meaning they can be equal to a GTX 285. Like I said before either way you look at it we are both right at some level.

Your point is wrong either way. The only way you would have a point is if Nvidia cards were locked and could not be overclocked too. I understand your point, if you overclock a 4870 it (can) be as good as a GTX 275. But the GTX 275 can be overclocked too. Its sorta of a mute point either way you look at it.

Hell my 720BE with the 4th core enabled clocked at 3.5 is faster then a X4 965BE stock.

You cant say one is as good or better then another one when your only talking overclocking one of them.

yes the GTX275 can be overclocked also but the 4890 just overclocks better and it's cheaper then the GTX275 so it's a great buy lol

Maybe I am wrong then again maybe I'm not because I'm not comparing the two overclocked I'm only comparing the 4890 overclock to the stock GTX 275 but I see where you coming from.

how would you compare an overclocked 4890 to a stocked clocked GTX275? it would be obvious since they are pretty much even at stock and you overclock one which would be better then? :P

I know what you mean but I look at it this way a 4890 is cheaper then a GTX 275 not only that but It overclocks better then a GTX 275 so which one is better 4890.

Running yourself in circles here bud. I'd rather a 4890 myself, for reasons including the ones you mentioned, but as stated, you can't compare stock to OC'd, and you can NEVER count on any component to overclock as well as you want it to, there's duds and there's gems that go forever, but never count on an OC to bring you to a certain performance level. I agree with some of what you're saying and I see what you're hitting at, but don't start saying other members are wrong when you're looking at things from a skewed perspective.

On a side note, I don't think the 4890, in all its OC glory or not, can reach a 285 in performance. A 280 probably, but not a 285, that's a whole new tier of performance.

First if you would go back and look a never called anybody wrong I said he was only half right. I know I'm wrong about most of it but on other parts I am right but this is only like you said because I'm looking at it in a totally different perspective. So what seems right to y'all might seem wrong to me and vice versa. I'm not calling anybody wrong and I'm not saying I'm right but I have used each card first hand so I think I know more of what it can and and can't do again I'm not calling anybody wrong here. I understand what your saying about some are duds and some others can be a diamond in the ruff that will OC way past the ability of an average card(CPU,RAM). Oh by the way I have seen a 4890 overclocked benchmark better the a GTX 285 I know what you thinking benchmarks are not a reliable way to test the performance between two cards when like you said some cards do not preform as good as others.
