Windows XP unpgrade

I am trying to install windows XP on my computer. I went to new egg and bought windows xp upgrade. I thought this would work for a straight up install. However the upgrade is asking that I install the original authentic CD that I am upgrading from. I have no such disk. The OS on there now is the RC windows 7.

The reason I need windows xp is that the sound card is not compatible with windows 7. This PC is for a simple studio I am trying to build. Simple ha ha ha. Windows Vista would work, but I choose xp because it was cheaper

My question is. Is there a way to trick the upgrade so I can install xp on my pc. Or does anyone have any other suggestions.

Thank you.

IF you can just get any old disk of windows (95, 98, ME, 2000 - it doesn't matter) just stick it in when prompted.

Would it be against the rules to virtually mount an ISO of an original disc just for that purpose? I mean if you already bought the WinXP upgrade download then I don't know how that would be illegal unless it is illegal to mount some old crappy OS just to upgrade.

^yup!

Are you running 64 bit Windows 7? If so you'll need to format your HDD first before the install. If you have 32 bit win7, you should be OK just popping in a win98 or whatever CD as Voyagerfan said up there.
