Need Advice on Purchasing a Video Card

Hello,

I've been staying up long hours into the night trying to find out the best video card to purchase later this year to couple with my upgrade to quad core.

Right now I am running :

E8400 Processor
GA-EP45 UD3R Gigabyte Motherboard
2 Gigs of G Skill 1066 DDR2 RAM
EVGA 9800 GTX +
OCZ 600W PSU
Antec 900

I plan on getting a 22 or 23 inch LCD monitor later this year and swapping out the e8400 and the video card (selling to a friend) for a q9550 or q9650 (if the prices drop enough with the i5 platform coming out) and upgrading to 4 gigs of RAM.

My favorite games and the games I will be playing most, therefore need the FPS in the most will be Call of Duty series (any version, I still play them all) Call of Duty 4 and World at War run on the same engine, though I am not sure what will happen with Modern Warfare 2.

Now, as I rub my eyes with fatigue, I can not for the life of me decide which video card to get. I have been reading reviews everywhere.

What I need:

Single GPU (Budget will in all likelyhood not allow for a $300+ card, so no on the GTX 295 or 4870 X2)

I do not have any significant interest in waiting for the new chipsets (GTX 300) to come out as my other parts will really not be on the same level.
---------------------------------------
According to the findings of Xbit Labs, the ATI HD 4890 plays Call of Duty World at War's engine the best as far as a single card/single core goes. Yet it is cheaper than both the GTX 275 and GTX 285. This confuses me as I have heard mixed reviews on the quality of the three cards, some say the Nvidia cards are better all around, while others praise the price/performance of the ATI card.

While past experience for me has favored Nvidia and the easy to understand drivers they use, I am willing to go with the 4890 if the increase in performance/drop in price is truly worth it for Call of Duty WaW/4

If anyone can expound on any of this or provide personal experience with any of these cards it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Your 9800GTX is a solid card, if your motherboard supports it you could always get another and SLi them! My 4870's are comparable to the 9800 and I plow through any game I want to at max settings on my 24'' screen (1920x1200)

My motherboard only has one pci-express x16 slot unfortunately. And the upgrade is half me wanting to and half my friend wanting my current parts. Wouldn't be considering if he didn't want to buy my current parts as it would be a waste of perfectly good working parts. The 9800 is part of the deal.
