AM2+ running at ddr2 800 not 1066

When i checked my RAM speeds i noticed that it wasnt running 1066, which AM2+ is supposed to support. I would imagine that it would automatically run at that speed, but it may need some settings tweeked... or it may have something to do with my computer reporting it as AM2 not AM2+...

So my question how can i achieve 1066 speeds, and if my CPU is really AM2 and not AM2+ is there anything i can do about it, as it was marked as AM2+?

ASUS M4A78 Plus
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066

yeah, i found it (by mistake) while trying some small overclocking.

Do you happen to know which values must be entered. Im new to cpu OCing and never even touched memory OCing.

Ill try to figure it out tho.

Every Bios for every brand is different. I've never had an Asus board, so I'm not sure. Usually there's something that says about ram timing and it's set to "auto'', you have to select Manual and it will then light up another menu that you can select 1066.
For the record, you aren't over overclocking the ram by setting it to 1066, thats what speed it's meant to be. If you overclocked the front side bus on your CPU, it overclocks the ram with it since the ram speed is simply a ratio multiplied by the front side bus. For example, the front side bus is 200mhz on all current AMD chips, if you have DDR2-800 ram, the FSB:ram ratio is 1:4. If you are overclocking you CPU by way of the multiplier (if you have a black edition), then ram settings are unaffected.

Its 1:2 DDR2 800 runs at 400mhz.

Need to know what G Skill memory you have to know the Timing and Voltage settings.

Also i noticed on the website that it said "intel chipsets only" well i say :P to that. I disnt think something like that was possible with memory.

No offence, but why would you buy this ram when it specifically says ''intel chipsets only''?

There's lots of people that have had it work fine on AMD platforms, and apparently it is working on yours, but why even buy it when it says that? Unless you transferred the memory from an intel rig, now that would make sense.
I'm not bashing, just curious why you bought that ram over the turquoise heatsink ones which are the same price for 2x2gb of 1066 and have lower latency on the timings (5-5-5-15).

:P I overlooked alot of things buying the parts for my first rig, that was one, and those specific ones were on sale when i bought them :D

Now that i have more money, and knowledge, im planning on getting alot of new parts and setting my old ones aside for a rainy day.
 
OK, i tried it. CPU-Z reports:
DRAM freq of 534.8
CL of 6 clocks
tRCD of 6 clocks
tRP of 6 clocks
tRAS of 18 clocks

tRC of 17 clocks and CR of 2T

and what confuses me... FSB: DRAM of 3:8 is that right?

Voltage is right at 2.0

So is this correct?

And so my final question is "Will i be able to see the number 1066 when checking my system settings? OR will i just have to know deep down in my heart that it is 1066?" :D
 
cool Thanks for all your help. Hopfully i will learn about this stuff in my Computer Maintenance class so i can understand what i did and why it did what i wanted it to do :D
