Have you tried any other virus remover like Avast Free? I see you already have Norton and AVG.

Yes...AVG is not finding it. Norton finds it but cannot fix it. I did a search on the REGEDIT as Norton advised but did not find the quote they suggested.

Do you have an extra computer that you can take the hard drive out of yours and put it in the extra one and scan it with Malwarebytes that way. The reason why you are having a problem is that the process is active at bootup and thats why nothing will run correctly. Once you put the drive in a different system, you should be able to find it and delete it and then put the drive back in the original system to finish scanning.

I have experience in changing out just about everything BUT a hard drive. Is this a pretty simple task? By the way..this is a lap top....will that make any difference?

It's a very simple task. It's like taking out a CD ROM.
Just unplug the power, and the IDE and/or SATA cable and unscrew it (if it's screwed in) and done. Reverse this process to install it..
Just make sure you ground yourself before doing so, hard drives are very sensitive to electromagnetic discharges.

Wouldn't this virus be imbedded in the hard drive I am exchanging and in essence going to do the same thing at start up on the other machine? By the way...this is a laptop....will that make any difference?

Older laptop or newer one? If it's an older one, you'll need an adapter. If its a sata drive then you won't need anything as long as the computer you are putting it into has sata connectors.

You need a desktop to do the procedure I told you about, unless the laptop has room for a second hard drive.

Reformatting will wipe everything from your drive, including any data you might want saved. Back up your data first.

I guess I will just go that route. I was hoping not to...but it looks like my best option. Thanks for your help on this!!!!

Wait. Before you do that you should boot into safe mode. At least you can get your old documents and most files out that way so that it's not a total waste (assuming you have a secondary HDD) Or stick the drive on another computer and remove the documents there.
