Asus 9600gt silent

Looks like a good cooler setup. 9600 GT's are good. They are the same performance as a 9800gt using less power. Trust me, I have 2 of them :D

you are kidding right?

appart from the 9600gt having slightly better memory, the 9800gt blows it away.

As to whether it is a good card, yes, but with all asus silent cooling (any for that matter), because it has a passive cooling heatsink (ie. no fan), you need to make sure your case has good airflow, or the card has a dedicated fan, otherwise it will just overheat and either damage the chip or shut the system down. Either way, you will shorten the life of the card :P

Not at all.
The 9600 and 9800gt both have the same memory bandwidth.

I've tested several different cards using 3dmark06, everything the same except video cards-

gts250_512mb-14K
9600gt_1gb- 11k
8800gts_320mb- 9500
9400gt_512mb- 5k

A 9600gt has better performance than an 8800gts, and uses half the power. Perhaps you were thinking 9400 or 9500gt? Those aren't even in the same league as the 9600.

I opted not to get this one. The specific "2d" in the description made me wary. The old model asus 9600gt silent (which was much more popular and which newegg doesn't carry anymore) didn't have that, and the one guy that reviewed this one said something about it not doing anti-aliasing in 3d. I'm not sure what difference it makes, I though they would all be the same chipset, but I bought another make of the 9600gt.

The MSI 1gb is what I have, very nice cards. They are small, don't require external power, and don't get very hot.
