Athlon 2.6ghz Quadcore 95w

I wonder how it performs, and I wonder how the low cache will effect performane

It seems that it not only lack L3 cache, but L2 cache is only 512KB per core, while Athlon II X2 has 1MB per core
 
Not worth the money at all.

Turns out this 620 was suppose to be built on Regor platform and was suppose to have 4x1gb of cache. Instead, AMD cheaped out and built it on Deneb architecture so it it only has 4x512.
I'm willing to bet even a 9950 Phenom I would beat it out in any testing.


You know, I've been thinking. What has me really curious is, if this chip is based off deneb architecture, does it actually have the L3 cache but it's ''locked''? I wonder if, similar to those using the Phenom II 810, enabling ACC would ''unlock'' the L3 cache in this chip?
If this is true, than once this chip falls down to $100 or so in a couple weeks, it will be actually a pretty good deal if the L3 would unlock you'd basically have an 810 Phenom II with full working 6mb of L3 cache for really cheap. Interesting.

In my opinion the Athlon II 620 Propus Quad-Core processor would likely be equal to the Phenom 9950 Quad-Core because the Athlon II 620 processor cores are more efficient despite the lack of cache on the Athlon II 620.

I do agree the price it too high on the Athlon II 620. A fair price would likely be around $99.

Edit: I also just noticed NewEgg raised the price on the Phenom II 720 Tri-Core processor to $125. It is cheaper at ZipZoomfly.com for $119.

I agree, for the money they are not worth it. The 720 or 810 just kills it. Plus there's going to be a Athlon II X3 too. How they are going to price that, I have no idea. Not surprised they used the Debeb core. Since the first wafer of Phenom II chips the stack of them with screwed up L3 has probably been getting higher and higher, what better way of getting rid of them.

I'm just waiting to see what Intel is going to do. You know the stack of i7s by now is probably up to the roof that has bad cores or cache. Are they brave enough to dump them in the trash can:D
 
Is Intel releasing some processors that are lower quality under the Celeron 430 Conroe-L Single-Core name? Aren't these defective dual-core chips they release under the Celeron name?
 
$99 would have been a much better price for these units, although until we see how they perform in real world testing i guess ill wait before judging whether it is worth it or not.

I'm betting the price will be down to that in a couple weeks anyway. Newegg always prices CPU's high when they first come out. The 550 was $125 when it first came out too, then it was $99 like 3 weeks later.

Yeah, same with anything new, its always more expensive to get stuff right when it comes out.

There is already sites that claim to have unlocked it. But they are changing it over to the real Propus core soon without L3.

Cool. Well, perhaps once they start making the full 1mb cache one they will seriously lower the price of the deneb cores to under $100. That will be a cool deal.
 
They lowered the price to $100 as expected. There's no reviews on it whatsoever, probably because no one is buying it! Perhaps at $100 they will, if I didn't already have a sweet quad core I'd buy that sucker and make use the ACC to unlock the L3 cache and have an 810 with full cache. Sweet deal.
 
Yeah I'd like to see some benchmarks on it compared to the 550 and 720 Phenom II....at the same clock speeds.
And then actually I'd really love to see testing for the 620 VS a 9950 phenom I.

I saw a couple, but it was with the L3 cache unlocked. Then I saw one for the 630 (2.8ghz), but thats about it.
