New build, I've got some 36GB SATA Raptors laying around and I'm thinking...

As I said, I've got 2 36GB 10K SATA Raptors kicking around as well as a couple of 500GB WD SATA Storage drives. I'm thinking why not a striped array on the Raptors to run OS, Mydocs and some other stuff and use the 500GB for MP3s, Vids, etc. I was also thinking install the second 500GB, but not in an array, rather just as another drive and setting up Acronis to backup the main storage to the other 500GB every other day or so. (I'd rather not run them mirrored b/c of speed) Thoughts?

Thanks for the feedback. I figured, nothing on the raptors will change all that often and a weekly backup will mean that I'm not real worried about the risk of the Raid 0. I would imagine that a couple of raptors striped will scream. Might as well take advantage of equipment on hand. I'll post back with some results after I'm done. Thanks again and more input welcomed.

A while back I did a RAID with a pair of 36GB raptors. Yes, it was quick, but honestly, there's very little real world performance gain. I guess since you already have the drives, go for it... Otherwise, I wouldn't bother too much with it :P

Yeah, T_O_O, I definitely don't expect a ton of actual real world gain, especially with speed of SATA already these days. That said, like you've eluded to, I felt like a raptor in the case is better than a raptor in the drawer. :)
