Right now i have the AMD Athlon 64 x2 which is really slow. I also have a spare which is the regular AMD Turion 64. Which is faster between these two. What are others that i can install or is any processor compatible? I am actually looking for a dual core. any input on this would be appreciated. thanks

Without knowing the specific models of each processor, it's difficult to say which would be faster. But before you dive too deep, are you even sure these processors are compatible with the laptop, or that you can even upgrade it? I know some Dell's require you to practically rip the entire computer apart to gain access to the processor. And as for compatability, I know some computer may technically support the processors, but the bios isn't made to support them so it simply won't work.

Ya, exactly. If it's a stock computer then there's pretty much no chance at you switching out the processor in it.

Not true. I've swapped processors in laptops before. It's not possible in all laptops, and some are much more difficult than others, but it can be done. Just with laptops, you really need to stick with the processors they were "built" for. I guess besides BIOS and hardware compatibility, there may be a heat issue depending on the heatsink and such.

I actually just swapped motherboards because the ac adaptor went out. the working mother board had the spare turion but i swapped it with the athlon x2 because i just figured it was faster. so it was compatible with the working mb. but also someone was telling me that they thought the turion was a faster processor. the Athlon runs at 1.8ghz and im not sure about the Turion. I may just go ahead and tear it down again and swap it out and test it. What exactly would i have to look for if i wanted to find a compatible upgradeable processor?
