Vaio for gaming? I doubt it...

My fiancee bought a Vaio this year, a little $900 unit. Its ok for typing and internet. But she got on my laptop (mine has all the bells and whistles) and learned that she likes to play games!

She loves fallout 3, and wanted to put it on her computer. There is NO way that game would run smoothly (maybe max at 2fpMINUTE!). She cant seem to understand why she cant get games to play smoothly. She tried one of the Sims games and it was horrendous! It was so slow and lagging.

So she wants on my laptop all the time, I said absolutely not. I need mine to actually do things. I would buy a console, but dont have the $400 to buy one. (I'd love a PS3 slim)

Anyone have advice on what to do here?
I seriously doubt that her computer can be upgraded. If it could be upgraded, I'm guessing that it would probably cost as much as a console.

She has a decent processor, and 3GB ram, but only a crummy built-on GPU that cant keep up with calculator (I'm exaggerating obliviously). I think its a nVIDIA 8400M, its a junk GPU except for FireFox and Word.

So what do you think? And please, serious suggestions only.

sorry bud, nothing else to do. you can't upgrade a laptop's internals except for adding ram. a decent gaming laptop would costs over 1000 dollars.

oh and the ps3 slim is 300 bucks, not 400. ;) look into an xbox 360 as well, i think those are cheaper.

I've run Fallout 3 on a 500 dollar laptop before. You just have to disable skins and what not. Sure, you wont be able to see faces or hands and everyone will be invisible but at least it runs.

If you can get her to spend 100 to 150 you should be able to get her a video card that would run it and a lot of other stuff.

It wouldn't be max settings, but she probably wouldn't care.

Is she hot? Oh nevermind I see she's your fiance. So you pretty much have to help her. This is probably a good thing. If she likes gaming she won't nag you as much about it in the future. :)

ps3

I can't trade her laptop in for a console. She would hang me if I did that. And no offense, but I don't want a buggy, problem laden, overheating, and probably about to be outdated in the next year XBox 360.

My brother has one and its been in the shop 3 or 4 times in 2 years. I hate the interior design of those machines. Who in the world designed that box! Putting processors under a DVD drive along with a cluttered interior and undersized fans to top it off, how dumb. My bro added exterior cooling fans, put it on a laptop cooling rack and limits time on it so it doesn't die again. What a piece of junk!

And what a shame, the original XBox was SO great! I never had a single problem with it. It still runs great even after 4 or 5 years without any work ever done to it.

I had a PS2 slim and couldn't be happier with it. Now I want the PS3 slim for the blue ray player, the small size and the games that she likes. And yes I understand that it wouldn't be $400 for the PS3 slim. But a $300 PS3 slim plus Fallout 3 and a second controller will make the total cost equal to about $400.

An yeah, shes pretty cool, I actually got her to watch star wars films #4, 5 and 6 and monty pythons holy grail. Weird huh, and yeah shes cute too. I dont know HOW I got her!!! ha ha ha
