My vista Ultimate 64 says I only have 3 days to register. I have a legal copy and I don't know why this is happening. It looks like my OS just forgot the key, but when I put it in I got an error and it said to contact the OEM. I built it, so its kinda dumb to contact myself (jk). But I called M$ and they just said I need to contact registration support, and then registration support said to call coustomer service, then they said to call....!!!!!1 FK THEM!!!!! (plz don't ban me 4 that)
If I backed up my current C: drive, wiped my C: drive, reinstalled vista so its all clean and shiny, then restored vista w/ my back up, would it be re-registered or am I just wishing that it did.
 
Vista has been known to lose its activation
Usually its just a matter of re-activating it online, if this doesn't work then you just need to call MS and activate via the phone

If you haven't read I did call M$ and all they did was re-direct me to the other division of customer service again and again and again...
And the first thing I tried was your method, and I don't get prompt to activate by phone because that usually calls the OEM, I built my own PC so like I said, I'd just go crazy talking to myself.

Use kimsland's link and try this method:

Activate Windows Vista by using the automated telephone system

Microsoft should support your OS since you bought it OEM.

Have you tried installing it on more than one system?

Yes don't worry I read it all originally
The activation is only covered by MS
Call them again and get activated, since they are the ones that handle this area

Its true that some OEM installs (ie corporate OEMs) do not require activation or any further input other than the OEM Manufacture (ie you in your case)
But this does not apply to your system

To activate Windows Vista by using the automated telephone system, follow these steps:

1. Click Start , and then click Computer.
2. Click System properties on the toolbar, and then click Click here to activate Windows now in the Windows activation section.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
3. Click Show me other ways to Activate.
4. Click Use the automated phone system, and then follow the instructions.

You will not need to speak to anyone but the computer, which will generate a new key for you.

I don't see a "activate by phone" choice.
 
I think I'll see if my dad can get a discount copy of vista ultimate from work, should be like $50 for a copy.
Or I'll deal with those red dot Indians.
