okay, let me first say that i know the "basics" of computers, and very well could put one together given the parts. that is where you come in, i've been out of the loop in regards to computer parts (mobo, psu, video cards, etc) for the last couple years.

i'm looking to build a fast desktop, that is capable of low level games, and regular music playing. future proof would be nice, or at least room for upgrades about 2-3 years out.

i already have 2 x 500 gb hard drives from an old external, and a cd drive, and dvd drive separately. also, 4 x 1 gb ram sticks. so i guess i'm looking for:

Case:

Mobo:

CPU:

Video card:

PSU:

Sound card: necessary right now?

OS: Vista or wait for Windows 7?

I hate that i'm asking for someone to do the research, but just when i see someone else's rig, and thing "i'll just get what he got", then i see someone else's and i change my mind. not to mention i don't know enough to know what is compatable with what now a days. Thanks for the help. Greatly appreciated! thanks

i have a XPS 400, but as far as i'm concerned i'm not usuing anything from it... cept the dvd and cd player. as for the memory, if you mean RAM i have 4x 1gb kingston ddr2

Thanks StrangleHold,

That is a mid-sized case right? i was looking at:

XCLIO Windtunnel Fully Black Finish 1.0 mm SECC Chassis ATX Full Tower Computer Case

would be too big/much. and how does one know if a motherboard will fit into said case? not sure if there is some kind of chart that shows the capatability.

Should say whether it takes a full ATX or mini ATX but the majority of cases can use atx mobos, however, the 4870 and all new video cards are large, thats a different story. The wind tunnel should fit everything fine.

That AMD build seems pretty good, but if you like Intel more, you can get a solid Intel i5 set up.

I'll throw one together for you right now.
