Another Crysis Thread

Hi everyone, sorry about creating a new thread, none of the old ones had the same issue/any fixes. Basically I finally got around to buying Crysis (took me long enough, eh?). The problem is that my computer will run it just fine for about half an hour then it'll lock up and I'll ctrl+alt+delete to a "program has stopped responding" screen. It doesn't matter what settings the graphics are on, it just stops. The CPU temp is usually 47c, and the GPU is usually 61-65c. So I don't think it's an overheating issue. The GPU is actually overclocked too if it matters: Core clock: 650 Memory Clock: 999.

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

If that is your idle cpu temp thats a bit high, i was having a problem like yours, couldn't run any games, got a can of air and blew dust out and got an exhaust fan for my cpu and i was down from 55 to around 35, huge improvement, and games can run again.

I'm sorry, I meant under load. For AMD processors (especially mine) idle is 40 max.

6gb x 4 sticks btw.

Overclocked myself, only 1-2 artifacts found in test runs, no matter how long I leave it on. Mobo is a Bio-Star T-Series. Last edit, lol.

Oh and Bodaggit, with your choice of CPU aside, your rig makes me drool.

So you have 2x 2Gig sticks and 2x 1Gig sticks. That's good news.

Maybe try to set your GPU back to default and see what happens?
Your overclock may not be 100% stable under load.

Btw, what's not to like about a i7 920?

Yeah maybe, but the thing is, when I tone down the settings and put the oc back down to factory settings, it still does it. Think it's a programming issue?

Nothing's wrong with it, I just have a deep loathing for Intel. They screwed me in the past, long story : /

You've tried different drivers?

Bummer to hear about your Intel experience, or lack thereof.

This thing smokes dude! :D :good:

doesnt that put him into single channel ram? if he had, say, just the 2 2gb sticks it'd be dual channel right?

Yeah, it's Dual Channel. See the thing about the drivers is, the older ones aren't compatible with Windows 7. Gives me display errors. I even tried running in different compatibility modes (that's one reason I love windows 7). So far it's looking like I'll have to finish one of the greatest games of all time in frustration mode. Roflmao.

I just had crysis go funky on me. after crashing on the aircraft carrier again, i loaded it up again and the colours were all funky. like totally inverted colours but the game ran fine... tried to play with funky colours, i gave myself a migrane. and it crashed again. :(

I have, twice. It's a pain in the arse to uninstall and reinstall. I don't know what it is about this freaking game. It's simply addictive, but it's also known as "The PC Killer." So as you can guess, I more than likely put my PC through some stress over playing this game. If only I can figure out why 32bit Crysis works perfectly, and the 64bit crashes to desktop. There's no difference in FPS, they both play well over 30.

Btw, sorry to hear of your troubles linkin93. Unfortunately I'm unable to pinpoint the cause of your crash, if the video got messed up first, maybe the GPU RAM overheated (if you even have one.)

Did you check the hardware requirement of the game. I saw many users with the same problem, and it looks like it comes down to the PSU, RAM, or CPU. I remember a review of the game saying that it needs quite a bit of memory.

Yeah, that's the thing though, my computer should be able to handle this game on high graphics without trouble. I think it's just the video driver though. Because there are other games that crash too, when I know my computer can handle them (GTA IV, Batman: Arkham Asylum, even WoW crashed before). I wish I could just blame it on overheating >.> lol

I'd like to bet its the overclock on your graphics card. I had the same thing i overclocked my card it was stable in stress testing and everything. Then i played crysis and i got a bit of an fps increase from the oc but after about half an hour it would lock solid it was weird but it was defantly the oc because its never done it since i undid the oc.

hope this helps.

That's what I was thinking, but even on factory settings it does it. I'm still trying to figure out what it is. Kinda makes me wanna give up computer gaming and go for a console again >.<
