Quick Question

Yes, it will be pre-installed on this machine. If it says "OS - Vista.." then it will be installed. You don't need the Vista disk if you buy this machine.

Thank you. I have a huge virus or Trojan horse and am apparently going to have to reformat. When I look in the partition, I only see my files, nothing about Vista. So, are you sure? No offense, I just don't want to buy it again for $150...

Not quite sure what you're trying to say.
Are you going to buy this computer? Or do you want Vista by it's self, so that you can reformat and reinstall Vista?

I have the computer, and it has a major virus or Trojan horse. Nothing is working to fix it, so I guess I'm going to have to reformat it. I want to make sure Vista (my current OS) is in the partition (I don't see it there) because if I reformat, I don't want to lose it and have to go buy it. Does that make sense?

I think I see what you're saying.
You want to reformat cause you're infected, but you also want to keep your Operating System (Vista), correct?

Yes. I have a friend helping me, but he seems to think I'll be losing it. I have tried everything to fix this and am very frustrated :(

Ok, before we come to the conclusion of reformatting, try another alternative first:

Here on the CF we recommend this software called Malarebytes (www.malwarebytes.org) I recommend installing that and seeing if it can remove whatever you're fighting.

Please update us on if this helped you or not. (You should install and run a full scan on your computer and remove the malware) Let's see if we can try to tackle this :)

Thanks so much...but it wouldn't allow me to go to the site. Whatever is on my comp is preventing me from searching AVG, Norton, etc. Earlier it wasn't allowing me to go to computer forums, not sure what changed. I had a friend email me some links and I downloaded and ran AVG, Norton, Ad Aware and Windows Defender. The problem is still here.

Can your friend email you the link to Malwarbytes aswell? Or can you get it from an external source (i.e flashdrive, CD?) (I'd recommend CD cause if you stick the drive in your computer there is a possibility that your computer may infect the drive, so when you go and stick that drive in someone's else computer, they're infected too.

I think the OP originally wanted to know if there was a Recovery partition on his hard drive, so he could reload the OS.

I'm a she, but yes. Thanks. I'm curious to know if Vista is in the partition, whether I have to reformat or not. I don't see it there.

Actually, I will go ahead and email it from my phone. Didn't think of that before. Just a minute and I'll let you know if I can download it.

Aha! Lol I found it on facebook and followed a direct link. I downloaded and started a full scan. If this is anything like the others, it will take over an hour. I really hope this finds it.

I think you should go back to your original thread, ie Here: http://www.computerforum.com/160418-can-someone-please-help-me.html
And follow the guide that member ScOuT asked you to do ;)

Did you need any further help on "Operating Systems"? As this thread was about a "Quick question" if your HP has a Restore partition

I feel its a good idea to purchase the Restore Disc for your machine, you can >> contact HP on getting that if you want one. (note: they can also confirm info on your Restore partition, if exists still)
There's a quick answer ;)

Well I wasn't trying to double post, this just turned into this discussion. I wouldn't have even began talking about the overall problem here in the "Operating Systems" section, but I was prompted to (if you read the posts you'll see). And I still don't have an answer :) I would contact HP, but I'm guessing they won't talk to me if I'm not a customer, and since I purchased this computer from an individual, I'm not. That's why I simply wanted to know if my OS is in my partition on this computer.
