What's best for travel?

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum and have a brief bit of knowledge in P.C.'s, but laptops and smart phones I don't know that much about. I was hoping someone could recommend me a good laptop or smart phone for travel.I'm going to be traveling through Israel (mainly Israel), Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and possibly India (still iffy on that one) on a shoe string budget over the course of a year. So, I'm looking for something compact that can be easily hidden. I don't want something that can be picked too easy. If some Palestinian or Pollock Haredim see's me carrying a laptop bag, I might just be his next target.

So, ideally, I'm looking for something smaller than a laptop (or most netbooks). A few key features I'm looking for are that it has a USB port or two or an SD reader for my digital camera. The rest isn't all that important as long as it gets internet. I was initially planning on getting an Ipod touch, but since I can't upload photos from my camera onto it, I kind of scratched that. But, something a long the lines of an ipod touch that has a usb port sd reader would be ideal.

i really like my MacBook Pro 13". i'm normally not a huge Apple fan, because of the overpriced nature of all their products... however this thing has an incredibly accurate display (great for photos), solid aluminum enclosure is very sturdy, and it's extremely thin (.95 inches thick). I don't know whether you're willing to drop $1,200 on a laptop that should realistically cost $900-$1,000 though. the multi-touch touchpad makes productivity faster than any laptop i've worked on, and a 7 hour battery is pretty amazing. the only drawback to this thing is the price.

apple is working on a tablet computer, which is basically the ipod touch but with a larger display and will probably run the full version of OSX and have USB support. this would technically be as thin as an iphone, smaller than a netbook, and do everything a fully functional netbook can. not set to release until next year though, and it's probably going to be $800-$999.

not saying Apple is the only good choice, but it's an option i highly recommend you consider if the price isn't a turn off.
