Malware problem; Browser hijacked...HELP ME!

Ok so heres the deal...I first noticed a problem with my computer in internet explorer. I google search something and every time I click on a link it redirects to an web add. I've got a pop up problem worse than I've ever had....Also I can't install hijack this....I instal the program, run the program, after the scan the program closes and the next time I click on the icon I get an error message that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Yes I am logged on as an admin, yes I've renamed the file, yes I've taken control of the file by running cmd in admin mode... It also won't let me delete the icon from the desktop...I get the same problem when I install malware bytes. The only anti-virus my computer will let me install was AVG and the scan comes up with nothing. PLEASE HELP!
 
can anyone help? if it helps its an HP Pavillion DV6000 Laptop With a Dual core AMD 2.0 With Windows Vista Home Premium Loaded on it...PLEASE HELP...21 views and no help..woah is me..:(

come on now...EVERY time I install those programs they run for 2 seconds and close...then I click to reopen them and get that error message....I don't know if that is the mal-ware or what...I'm lost... :(
 
Hello:

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.


How to run a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here , Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Download and post a log with HiJackThis.

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running

-I downloaded combofix..it ran for 2 seconds then closed...I attempted to run it again and the same happened.

-Malware bytes does the same thing....

-Hijack this....does the same...

-Computer is running the same...:(

ALL of those programs above do the SAME thing when I attempt to run them...they install fine, then open fine the FIRST time only....after that they run for 2 seconds....then close and will not open again....
 
Do you have another computer that you can take the hard drive out of this one and slave it to that one and do a full virus scan on it? A virus scan should find the offending files that is stopping those programs from running and delete them. Once the scan is done and deleted those files you can put it back in your system and scan it using malwarebytes and hijackthis and post the results.
 
i do not have another rig at the time....So I called a local computer repair store in the area and asked them if they could scan it for me....I explained my problems and this guy says I have the "gumblar" virus...can I get someones thoughts on this. I told him all of my symptons and he is telling me the only way to remove it is with a low level format, and is dead set on my problem being the gumblar virus.... again with the sad face :(

Without any type of scans or logs that we can look through, we can't be sure what you have. If you don't have access to another machine then you might have to take it in and have them see what it is.

If it truly is this gumblar virus then I would strongly recommend you reformat your computer and start fresh. But if you have any data you want saved then you need to back it up to an external or flash drive.
