Triple monitor question.

Currently I have dual monitors, and freaking love it. Been wanting to do triple monitors, but I'd have to buy a new , video card (to get the two additional monitor slots), motherboard (to support the second video card), and the monitor itself.

So instead of doing all that, I remembered I have an onboard video card on my motherboard. Problem is it's some low level GeForce IIRC where as my current video card is an HD 4870. Is it even possible to activate the onboard video card to run the third monitor? Or does having the 4870 over ride the onboard card?

I don't think it's possible (think I even read that some where a long time ago), but I figured I may as well ask.

Alternatively:

I have the ASUS M2NPV-VM, which is this card:

Currently I have the 4870 in the x16 slot. Let's say I buy a cheap video card that will work in the x1 slot (or even one of the PCI slots). Would the two work together so that I could run three monitors? Would the second card interfere with the primary card when I want to play games?

The third, new monitor (and thus new video card) would be solely for running movies, word documents, or other related activities. Not anything intensive like gaming, in other words. Would the two cards play nice with one another?

That's what I figured. Know anything about the validity of the alternative idea?

You can get one of the new 58** series cards they have the new Eyefinity more on that here http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity.aspx?info=EXLINK. They are pretty cheap http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161306. That is the 5770 it's no quite as good as your current 4870 but will run 3(up to 6 if you want) monitors like you ask. It also uses less power then you current card so you want need a new PSU. For something better then what you have that will run three monitor you will have to go for the 5850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102857. That is a good bit better then what you have and will allow the three monitors you want. It is a little pricey plus you may need a new PSU depending on if you current one will power it.

There is also the 5750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102859. Witch is about the same as the 4850 but has the new Eyefinity. Although it would be a downgrade from your 4870 if you don't play a lot of game it will be fine.

Then there is the 5870 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102856. One of the best cards out it is compete ting with the GTX 295 but out performs it in most games. It is pricey but worth every penny. That card will not need upgrading for a good 5+ years. It will most likely require you to get a new PSU.

I don't understand how those allow me to run 3 monitors with only two jacks? Is there a splitter or something?
