Hi guys I need help on picking out the components on my first rig. I've upgraded computers in the past but this is going to be my first from scratch. I plan to use this computer for mid end gaming, light video editing, and media. I would prefer to stay with intel and nvidia cpu/gpu. I also prefer microcenter because its nearby so i wouldnt have to pay shipping but i'm also ok with newegg and tigerdirect

My price point is roughly around $600

Things i'll be recycling from my old computer
22' moniter
keyboard/Mouse
CD/DVD drive
Operating system(windows 7 in the future)
Speakers
Wifi adapter

New Parts

Ram unsure approx $80

Power suppy unsure $?

Case $?

Total $559+

I also have an unopened Intel e5300 cpu and a ASUS P5QPL-VM EPU mobo that i plan on returning, if you think either of those would substitute well into my build let me know

I read reviews on the motherboard(the one in the list) saying that a large gpu would block the second pci slot. if true would that mean that my wifi card wouldn't fit?

It looks like it would block a port, yes. But since there's 2 pci slots you could just plug it into the other one of them. Also with that motherboard, I'd go with some DDR3-2000 RAM, although I'm not sure if it would have to be overclocked for that, but it looks alright with it. 4 gigs costs about 120$ and I'd suggest getting more than that, but a budget is a budget. Looks like a pretty good build though.

EDIT: On newegg it says that mobo can handle DDR3-2200, but since you're on a budget that'd probably be over the top.

Thanks for the help would the difference in the ram be that big of a differecne? Because if so i could just hold off on it for a bit.

And also what wattage power supply do you think would handle the system?

I dunno, I think RAM is useless past 4GB (DDR3 2000) unless you're playing super memory intense games or multi-tasking like crazy ;)

wow ddr3 2200 ram is like $300, is it really that much better? what about if i get 4gb of 1333 since its compatible and then get more later on? Or suggest a different board altogether in the same price range that supports a higher variety of ram.

Honestly, I would doubt there would be that large of a performance increase, but generally when people build they try to reach the machine's full potential. You don't have to get the fastest speed, but faster is always better.

GPU - ATI 4870 1GB would be a lot better than GTS 250

PSU - min. of 500w

Case - Don't know about your taste/ budget. Here a some good one
Under $50 - Antec 200/ CM Gladiator 600
Under $100 - CM 690/ Antec 300/ CM HAF 922/ Antec 900/ Lian-Li aluminum case
Over $100 - Antec 1200/ CM HAF 932/ CM Cosmos 1000

HDD- Western Digital Caviar Black is faster than Western Digital Caviar Blue

RAM - Get something with DDR3 1600. there are plenty around $80 with free shipping

Thanks i'll go with the caviar black. And as far as ram goes i was thinking 1600 in the first place i just wasn't sure if it was compatible with that board.
