I have a laptop that is running Vista. this is the config.
AMD TURION DUAL-CORE 2.00 GHZ
3.00 GB RAM
160 HD

Im going to graphic school and Im running the CS3 pack on my pc. It made my pc kinda slow, If I downgrade to xp will it make a difference? What are the cons of downgrading to xp?

nothing really... xp is faster then vista. windows 7 us faster then vista. windows 7 is a little bit slower then xp, but not by much

Yes, I would agree with 7angofragger. Windows XP is cheaper but Windows 7 is new and has all the support and updates and everything like that. Don't get Windows Vista. It's not good and Microsoft said that they are trying to wipe Vista and get you to get Windows 7.

Benchmarks show Windows 7 is faster than both XP and Vista in most cases. Though I've also seen some benchmarks where Vista SP2 is faster than Windows 7. I actually just reloaded my machine with a fresh copy of Vista SP2 and it's quite peppy.

Well for what the OP wants to do...which im assuming is mainly graphics work and the general internet,email...id also recommend Xp because its a very mature os and imo works flawlessly.

Vista is junk imo,had nothing but problems with it....7 is much better than vista as its faster and uses less resources.

I always turn auto updates off and update manually.

The latter wasn't mentioned.

I don't know why people want to do the updating manually when the OS
does it for you.

Once it's up to date, it doesn't take much to keep it that way automatically.

The best option really, if you don't want it to update manually, is to set it
to "Notify me updates are ready, but don't download or install anything".
