Where i live im forced if i want cable internet to use the company that services the subdivision. Called DBS worse internet service possible. they get their cable internet from charter and then re sell it to us instead of letting charter service us and im limited to 3mb down and .76 up. last few days this is how its been

yea thats the thing, i was playing some tf2 earlier it was running alright, well during gameplay i started lagging horribly, and to the point it dcd, so i ran a speedtest my ping was back at 389, and i was getting .28 down and .05 up.

So i restarted the modem and router, the test i posted is from that, so i unplugged everything let it sit for a bit and plugged it all back in still the same, so i tried direct from modem to computer and still the same.

i have had nothing but problems with this company. I was setting up vnc servers so i could connect to my comp outside of my house but i cant because of dbs nat/firewall doesnt allow for port forwarding.

the company has horrible customer service as well they dont help fix or try to help fix any problems.

Its ran out of a house, ive emailed them multiple times and tried calling with no response

Just curious how much do you fork out monthly with them? If you can get DSL AT&T have some pretty good 8mb-12mb lines in Missouri...dunno about your area.

well thats the thing, i cant get any other isps but centurytel or speednet wireless, but i do alot of online gaming so i dont see the wireless being that great, and the fast century tel i can get where i live is 1.5mb and its 50 a month plus the fee for the phone line as well, i pay 85 for cable internet and tv but its so bad, believe i have looked and i would have switched by now if i could

Sounds like the ISP is just ripping you off... you should complain. sometimes whinging and bitching puts things in motion. Get them to fix the lines.

he has already tried that :(

don't you have a trading standards agency type thing in US where you can take them to a small claims court if they don't give you the service that you want? If you threaten them with that i'd imagine just about straight away they will sort it out for you, and if they don't you can go through with it, get them fined quite heavily, you get your money back and they will think twice about doing it all again ;)

so over the weekend my connection did not get any better, so today ive tried calling dbs my isp 5 times with no luck they have not picked the phones up or called back, what a great show of customer service

when i do finally get through im gunna ask to be credited in some way its pretty sad that i pay 85 dollars a month and my connection has been such shit i had to go to a friends house to do my online college homework

Have you considered doing some tethering with 3G wireless? It's not the fastest speed but it looks better than what you have right now.

I would call them and complain, and if it persists I would contact the FCC and let them know that there is an ISP ripping you off.

ive tried to call lol they wont answer the phones, ive also tried the contact email they have on their site with no luck. and like i said it sucks cuz where i live in the park or subdivision is what they like to be called you get dsl which will be more than what i pay now because i would have to pay for a phone line, or dbs cable but if i leave the park its all charter. i was gunna start a petition and go door to door to try and get charter in the park and get rid of this shit dbs company that runs out of some guys house.

Whats funny is i called them out once, when i do speed test it shows up as charter if you ping the isp ip it comes back from charter. well i asked if they purchase the cable connection from charter and just resell and they told me they have no connection with charter but then started sayin theres a ladder and dbs is in the middle and when you get to the top its the highway and charter owns it all. so basically saying that they are connected with charter, also had one of my friends run some stuff he has and from what he could tell what they do is they put us all (everyone in the park) on a shared ip and then have us behind a firewall we can not get through any ports and ive complained about that as well because i wanted to setup my vnc so i could access it out side of my house and i cant. Thanks for letting me vent lol

Larger ISP companies are required by law to sell fiber to smaller ones at whole sale. Only the largest of the communications companies actually own the fiber stretched across the lands. So, it is quite common to see smaller ISPs, lease fiber from bigger ones at whole sale. The cost of laying down the fiber is so vast and large no small company could afford to do it.

You can still contact the FCC and let them know that your local ISP is ripping you off. Also, contact the better business bureau.

yea they close at 6 so if i dont hear anything back by then i will look into it, i just thought it was funny that he told me they have no connection with charter, he also said it shows as charter on speedtest cuz they dont want to pay to have dbs put on there.

idk you would think being that the 2 options here are dsl or cable they would try to help out to keep your business

well, after writing one last email stating that they have poor customer service and ranting about a bunch of other shit, 5 minutes later i get an email back, " We apologize for missing you call and your e-mails. Your message on
the phone triggered us to check our junk e-mail box. It was inadvertently
sent there. Anyway, we do see that there are people on the system that are
abusing the acceptable use policy. They will be dealt with immediately. In
fact, we are working on that as we send this message. You should notice a
change in about an hour."

Ironic, after emailing and ranting the last time i get an email response 5 minutes later, that was at 5pm sad thing is its now 7:30 and still no change, well change as far as good connection speed has actually gotten worse, and now it takes even longer to load anything.

Give them 24 hours. after that ring/email them and tell them that they are the worst ISP ever and then cancel your connection with them.

finally got my speed back today had to email them.

We went through the whole network at Marshall's Crossing to find out
what was going on. We kicked a bunch of people off line because they were
breaking the rules/law. We found that our router had automatically slowed
you down. A lot of people there have been camping out on the P2P sites and
downloading illegal movies. As a rule of thumb, if it costs money at the
store, it's not free. We are subject to the authorities for things and we
have prosecuted. Just keep it safe

So it was a mix of your router and people using P2P? how is your speed now? give us a speedtest!
