Thermal paste

I just got an ASUS Trinton 78 and I forgot to get the Arctic Silver... :(

So which paste should I use, the one that came with it (The ASUS Thermal Paste) Or thermal paste that I bought a little while ago made by Rosewell?

And yes, I'm going to get Arctic Silver soon.

Either one should work. I've never gotten any noticably better temperatures with Arctic Silver vs the stock paste you get though.
 
Noctura includes halfway decent thermal paste...How do you apply yours cromewell?

While your at it though...may wanna take a look at some Shin Etsu X23-7783D(best stuff on the market) or "Masscool G751", G751 is Shin Etsu's thermal paste that is a step below X23-7783D but still better than AS5. Also, other decent options are MX-2, MX-3, TX-2, TX-2, and OCZ freeze.

AS5 is not as good as it once was when compared to other thermal pastes.

Also, the way you put thermal interface material on has a LARGE part in determining performance. If you are spreading it, you will get many air bubbles but also get better temperatures from a silicone based thermal interface material. On the other hand, applying it correctly so no air bubbles form and not lifting it up to check spread will produce far better temperatures than a silicone or ceramic based thermal interface material.

I actually get better temps with some cheap "nasty" stuff that I got from my local computer store than I got with AS5, I think the majority of these expensive ones, on paper give better, but irl don't give big enough temp drops, if they give them at all, to justify the rather hefty price tag

Yes, apparently their stock paste is fantastic... I haven't compared it to anything, but having no set in time is great. Even going from stock preapplied Intel paste to AS5 I've never seen any real improvement.

To apply I've always just put a drop in the middle of the heatspreader then used heatsink pressure to spread it.

Stock intel paste actually is halfway decent, as it is a phase change material so it is actually somewhat comparable to AS5.

And as far as i know, the Noctura Paste is better than AS5(as5 however has been out for awhile, that new "matrix" paste arctic silver has is actually just TIM consultants TC grease 0098 which is within 2-3c or so of Shin Etsu)
 
Cheap paste had me running at 52* idle and after arctic silver was applied I run about 47*
 
I used IC Diamond 7 before AS5, i'm going to go and say that the ICD had better temps... maybe 3*c cooler. (this was on my pentium 4)
 
lol, bomberboy is already advertising his shin etsu, my question is how do you make money? you sell for so cheap. i mite buy some in a month or so.

Any isopropyl alocohol is good. try to get anyone with above 80% pure alcohol - less evaporation time and a cleaner surface (no water)

Not advertising, just stating the facts;) If you look around pretty much every site has shown X23-7783D to be the best. If i was advertising id be putting links to my website, linking to my post in FS/T, etc.
Im not making much money off of it anyhow, comes out to around making $1-$2 a gram after shipping, packaging, etc.

Yeah, and im pretty sure even high test vodka would work in a pinch.
