Using one Air card for 2 computers

Does anyone know if there is a way to use one wireless air card between a desktop comp and a laptop, while having a wireless router hooked to the desktop? I have a novatel usb wireless air card that works on both my laptop and desktop when i move it there, but would like my kids to be able to access the internet on the desktop without moving the card back and forth. Any help with this would be great. Thanks in advance.

Get another wireless card or hook up the desktop with an ethernet cable to wirless router, most wireless routers have 4 wired ports.

K hooking up the desktop with a wireless router and accessing it with my laptop with the air card installed in the desktop will work?If so does anyone know any handy instructions for dummies regarding networking this way?

If all you are wanting to do is make sure both machines have internet at the same time then you need to either hook up the desktop to the wireless router with an ethernet cable or get a wireless card. You really don't want to share internet from one machine to the other.
 
K besides buying another wireless card which I already know it is my easiest thing to do but most expensive..seeing it costs me min 250.00 for another card through Sasktel which is my only option. So also why not share internet between the 2 computers?What is the problem there?

You do not need to buy a wireless card from your carrier. You can buy them anywhere that sells pc parts. Best Buy, newegg, tigerdirect, walmart. You can buy a wireless card for under 50 bucks.

Even in Saskatchewan Canada where we have one network that monopolizes this industry? They use novatel and as far as I was told they will not activate cards other than ones purchased through them.
 
Are you accessing the internet through your wireless phone company? You said you had a router, that means your getting internet from a modem somewhere and dispursing it. Your post is confusing.

Yes the air card is same thing as what sprint has. you can not access this type of setup from another computer and share. Even with router in the picture can not do it. you must add a second air card line to your wireless carrier.
 
But he says he has a wireless router. You can't use a router with a usb wireless cell phone adapter.
 
No as those air cards are only able to carry one ip and not able to be duplicated. the wireless carriers are smart on that.
 
Sorry for my confusing post. As for the wireless router doesn't mean it has to ne internet. A wireless router can be used for networking computers together as well as accessing the internet through a wireless 802.11 Lan. So no having the wireless router doesn't mean i am getting internet. The only internet I get is by plugging a Novatel wireless card into my laptop or desktop. It is alot faster than dial up. We are thinking of getting our kids a desktop for xmas and replacing our old one. So just trying to figure out how to supply them with internet without them robbing our card from the laptop and hauling it to the desktop everytime they want to go on the internet. And \i had a wireless router just sitting brand new in the box doing nothing but collecting dust. I could probably use it to network my laptop to the new desktop and have our printer don by the desktop and just print from my laptop over the wireless? Is there anyone on here that is in Saskatchewan that has purchased a third party wireless card and activated it through Sasktel? Sorry for the confusion guys.

I know how the wireless phone carrrier adapters work, I'm just trying to figure out why he said he had a wireless router in the mix. You can't use routers with those.
 
Actually I just spoke with a computer technician today and with the one air card and the wireless router networking the laptop and the desktop together, as long as the air card is running on the one computer you can use the internet on the computer and share.
