recommendation for linux os for sister's laptop.

what is a good linux os for my sister's laptop.

Intel centrino duo CPU T2400 @ 1.83 ghz
987 mhz, 1.99 GB of ram

Currently it runs windows xp. should I just stick with that? will it be faster if I switch over to linux?

Stick to XP unless she's willing to learn. Linux is a great OS, but can be quite a pain sometimes... Example, I know the "easy" install method to get Flash working on Ubuntu would not work right because a download package got renamed or something. And of course when you go searching for solutions, you either find posts of other people having your problem or people talking about methods to fix the problem that don't work/no longer work

I like linux but the most basic of stuff is just a pain in the butt IMO
