Hello All!

So almost a week ago my wireless started to act weird. My desktop works fine green all the way...my laptop however seems to work...but for some reason once I turn on my desktop my laptop connection drops or slows down my connection a lot???

anyone have any ideas and/or suggestions for this issue?

thanks a mill!:good:

setup:

have direct modem connected to my desktop and using the wireless cisco linksys router for laptops. have high speed internet hook up...

Could it be - your 2 computers are sharing bandwidth the signal that's slowing things down.

I'm pretty sure they sell 2 channel Modems specifically to address this issue. I'm not a modem guru - but recently purchased a new Linksys - and one of the modems I stumbled across while I was researching mentioned the 2 channel feature and it described what I mentioned above as the reason for 2 channels.

hmm ya my linksys is one of the newer models available from linksys...it shud already be on a different channel...would any of the wireless settings need to be adjusted perhaps?

The way I understand this is you have your setup done this way:

Modem----Desktop----Router---Laptop

With the configuration above the desktop becomes a bottleneck as it is not designed to be the traffic cop for the network.

The way it should be done is like this:

Modem---Router----Desktop

Your wireless laptop then connects to the router to gain access to the local network and the 'net directly via the router.

This way the router becomes the access point for the network as it is designed to do.

hmm ya its def something to do wit turning on my desktop...cuz once i turn my desktop on my wireless either slows down or goes offline...how do I fix this?

Okay , i am not an expert in this but i think it could be because, your desktop is hard wired to the modem through a Ethernet cable. so if thats the case, the only thing you can do is make your desktop wireless accessable by installing a usb dongle.

my setup is

Modem

Wireless Router

Comp 1( desktop ), Comp 2, Comp 3 ,Comp 4 Comp 5

And the bandwidth is equally split among the 5 computers.

see if that works. and if it seem like complete bullshit, im sorry, like i said, im not an expert in this.

Hope this Helped:)
