First computer build since 2002

Back in early 2002 I built a pretty good P4 computer 2.4ghz, 728 MB RAMBUS RAM (non existant now), 110 gig hd and i cant remember the video card that I had it was by Nvidia. It lasted until 2008. But anyway, its hard to catch up on technology when you have a lot of things going on in your life. Im building a gaming PC and I want to know what your thoughts/recommendations are. Notice I didnt include the Hard drive, computer case, keyboard, mouse, and operating system because I can buy those locally. In case you want to know, the computer case will more than likely be the antec 902 and operating system will be windows 7 ultimate. Here is my wishlist that im saving for next paycheck.

You must make it public, then wait up to 24 hours for it to be available.

Or, just post the links. :good:

thats a serious computer and should handle anything you throw at it with ease.

Thx, once I build this one, I have to build one for my mom since she keeps harrassing me to build one for her. I have a pretty good idea of what im going to build for her which ill put up in a later post. To be perfectly honest, I really want two of the 5870s but one should do the job.

I think your PSU should handle two 5870s! PLEASE GET TWO OF THEM! I want you to benchmark :)

Im really thinking about it. I have till Nov 30th to think about it as newegg is supposed to have some more in supposedly. I probably should go ahead and get the antec 902 after work since there's one left.

What games do you guys want me to try once I build this beast? The last CPU game I played (literally) was Duke Nukem 3d. Old heads should remember that game.

GTA IV - needs a quadcore just to run smooth! also use 3dmark06 and tell us your FPS in the cpu tests.. no one has ever gotten over 4fps in that test.

Just an update on the computer build

I went ahead and picked the Antec 902 computer case. Im going to purchase two of the MSI X58 mobos for both of the computers im going to be building later this week. The thing that sucks about living in Hawaii the shipping prices. Any computer case you buy online, the shipping will be 85 bucks minimum. Im taking my time with the computer building because I have some personal things i need to take care of. Other than that, im still sticking with the current plan. I figure since the MSI X58s are 189, I can get 2 for my build and my parent's build. Surely but slowly I will have these comps built and for those that asked for the benchmark, I will do that. Word has it that there's an i9 coming out sometime in 2010. Can someone confirm?

Update as 18 Dec 09

I just received my ASUS P6T SE motherboard. Got it for $198 on Ebay brand new. Im also considering getting the ASUS P6T Premium mobo with the USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0gbs. Starting slow but making progress.

Nice system build

One thing I should point out - since you didn't list a case. Make sure you get one big enough to handle that Video card. It's a BIG ONE!!

29 Dec 09 Update

Because of expensive shipping prices (to hawaii), i will be getting the following from best buy since they have a sale going on right now.

WD 1 TB Hard Drive 7200 RPM - 99.99 x 2

Im deciding whether to get the corsair 750 or 850 power supply since they run for 115 (750) and 137 (850). I figured if i can get 2 of these (im building 2 computers) then i got a good deal.

The only thing i think i will be getting from newegg is the GPU, RAM, & i7 920 processors.

So in your guys opinion, should i go ahead and get the small things first since they are on sale? As i said before, shipping prices to Hawaii suck. If i wanted a power supply from newegg, i would have to pay 30 dollars extra for shipping. Shipping on a case costs 85 dollars minimum. Sometimes, living in Hawaii isnt all that IMO. Let me know what you guys think.
