Which company gives the least unnecessary software when you buy a laptop?

I am looking for a 17" laptop strictly for internet usage (i.e. eBay, stock trading, online poker, etc). Does anyone know which manufacturer such as Dell or HP will create a laptop with the least "crap"? I don't need 30 day trials of virus scan software, or photo editor software.

Usually dell are the worst, but that' on their desktops. I think HP has the least unnecessary software.

Try Dell business laptops. I have a latitude laptop and it came with no BS trial stuff.

I'm going to check out Dell business laptops now. I'll see how they look.

I already compared Dell vs HP but HP won't let me downgrade to 160 GB harddrive, downgrade to a 4 cell battery or remove microsoft works.

Dell won't let me remove the Mcafee virus scan plus some other crap I don't need.

Both won't let me downgrade to Windows XP. The only upgrade I want is 4 GB RAM.

You thing wrong , HP is the most spammer computer builder, Shop HP this and that on the desktop. it's getting more serious when you add their printers . When a customer bring me a HP with a restore disk.. I simply use a Windows OEM cd and reistall the OS

I just receive yesterday my Dell Latitude ; the only useless software is a 1 month Norton trial... I just cancel the installation. Oh yes the desktop background show a nice image with a Dell logo

Acer now put a lot of junk in their PC and Laptop.

When it came to laptop 2 names Dell in Toshiba

Acer's pretty bad... HP is pretty bad... Dell's are pretty bad... I don't think you're going to find something without loads of crap on them. I know with my Acer and my grandparent's laptop, I reloaded them as soon as I bought them. Well, I did boot the Acer and saw how bad it was, but I didn't even allow the Toshiba to finish it's initial configurations :P

About the only ways you can get less software is to reload the laptop yourself, buy it from a local computer store (or find OEM laptops) or put some faith in business laptops :P

Go in the business section , when I order my Latitude ( 2 weeks ago ) the option to downgrade was there for $ 0.00

as I said it came with norton... you jst cancel the installation the first time you boot the lap top , nothing to uninstall

....

I've worked on a few Toshiba laptops and in my opinion, have more bloatware then Dell or Hp.

Like said before, the best thing to do would be to uninstall whatever you don't use when you first turn it on after buying it or do a fresh install without installing their bloatware.

Yea for 3 times the price with same performance as one cheaper thats able to be upgraded easily.

Everything about your statement is not true. Then again, most people don't know their head from a hole in the ground when it comes to pricing, specs, total cost of ownership, and many other variables that come into play when owning anything; be it a car, a computer, a house, refrigerator, or anything else that will require maintenance and will eventually break or become outdated.

A Macbook starts at $1,000, so by your logic a $333.33 (repeating) would be equal spec for spec and feature for feature as a Macbook. Dude, put down the crack pipe.

Well considering dual core laptops are running around 299 new and i guarantee you can not get a mac thats 299 dual core.

And ill put the crack pipe up ur ass. this a is forum for help now to be a dumb ass kid.

You might be able to get dual core laptops for $299 but most users won't want low specs for a laptop. You'll get a slow hard drive, low ram, and a very low processor. Most consumers regret buying a laptop that cheap and then wonder why everything runs so slow and expect me to upgrade it or tell them the bad news they need a new machine.

Nice, Internet tough guy huh? It was a joke, maybe you shouldn't take the Internet so serious, and I am probably older than you. Not that I care if someone over the web calls me a kid.

I simply chime in and say, the best laptop you can buy with zero bloat ware is an Apple. My opinion. You decided to initiate a debate, which you are completely wrong on, but never the less I humored your response with my own rebuttal.

You are the one that said it is the same laptop for triple the price. I highly doubt you can even back up that claim. All Mac laptops are dual core, and they come standard with many features a lot of laptops do not. An Apple laptop may not be for everyone, sure, that I can agree with. However, they are hardly over priced for what you get, especially when considering total cost of ownership. You won't be able to match one spec for spec and feature to feature with the Apple being any more expensive really. To be honest, they are competitively priced for everything you get.
