nvidia gts 250 or 9800 gtx

should i get a nvidia gts 250 or a gtx 9800....on a msi ka790gx board which i was wondering can support nvidia card or not
 
Any motherboard can support nvidia or ati cards. the GTS 250 is slightly better but the are cheaper solutions: an ati 4850, they are cheaper and outperform both cards i believe (dont quote me on that)
 
GTS 250 is a relabeled 9800 gtx

they improved it with a smaller die so it is smaller, cooler, and uses less power. It is physically 1 inch shorter (saved me moving my hard drive) and only requires 1 6 pin power supply connector, where the 9800 gtx requires 2

Where did you get that idea. I've only got 1 power supply connector plugged into my 9800 GTX+. There is a 2 Molex Y adaptor cable if your PSU doesnt' have a 6 pin connector - but only 1 plug into the card itself.
 
All 9800GTX had two 6 pin power connectors. All the first 9800GTX+ had two 6 pin power connectors. It wasnt untill after the GTS 250 came out that they started putting one 6 pin connector on (some) of the 9800GTX+. There are some GTS 250 that have two 6 pin connectors.

Its really just all over the place. The 9800GTX+ was suppost to be a G92b 55nm. core. Some was, some wasnt. Some of the 9800GTX+ G92b had two 6 pin connectors, some had a single connector. Pretty sure all or most of the GTS 250 had the G92b 55nm. core but still some still had/have the two 6 pin connectors. The GTS 250 was a cost saving move really, the cores were higher yield, shorter PCB and cooler and most with a single 6 pin connector. As far as having a single or double 6 pin power connector on the G92b was really up to the manufacture. Some did some didnt.

In a general sense:
65nm:
8800GTS(G92)=9800gtx=some 9800gtx+=some GTS250

55nm:
Some 9800gtx+=Most GTS250

Basically, almost all GTS250 are running the G92b core, however some still have the 65nm G92 core. Many of the 9800gtx+ are G92b as well, however many are G92 though as well. The 9800gtx has the G92 core, however the subversion is different than that of the 8800GTS G92 as it includes a few new power saving features.

Most of the GTS250 have a single power connector on them, however some were just relabled 9800gtx+, which in turn were actually some 9800gtx, which means there are both 65nm and 55nm GTS250 out there.

The GTS250 and 9800gtx/9800gtx+ are killer cards for the price, and both perform better than the 4850.
